Hello all, new here, and very very confused.

I am a Level 4 certified Personal Trainer here in the UK, with an BSc Honours Degree in Sport, Fitness and Coaching/Management (equivalent to a Bachelors Degree). I also have a NASM Accreditation to allow me to train in the U.S.
I have a girlfriend in the U.S. from New Jersey. I am wanting to move there without the need for a fiancé VISA preferably.
I want to move either permanently, or temporarily. I applied and had a job offer accepted previously in soccer coaching, and the company would have sorted my VISA for me, however I turned that down due to being only halfway complete in my education...
I am looking to apply for work in New Jersey or New York, and have 17 jobs ready to apply for and I was wondering what my next step is:
Do I need to sort a VISA out? If so, which one?
Would they sort it for me?
Is there any hope?
Hope to hear your replies.

The company will sort the visa part out for you. They will have to help you get an H1B visa. Just let the company know when you apply that they will have to sponsor your visa.

It might narrow down your options since most companies shy away from this tedious and expensive process.

Good luck to you!

The employer must apply for the visa. Your task is to find an employer that is interested in going through the process.

Do not know what the norm is on the East Coast, but most trainers where I am are self employed.

Obviously of you are good enough they will go through the visa process, which one, well maybe a couple of options but that is their call.

I applied for 10+ jobs as a personal trainer and got a few replies, positive in the fact they wanted to hire me, negative in the fact that once they realised I was British they said they do not give out VISAs! One in particluar said how once I gain authorisation to work in the U.S., they would give me an interview.

Could someone tell me the process I can go through to perhaps tackle these application differently next time?

Can I gain authorisation somehow, can I ask the companies to vouch for me when applying for my authorisation? As perhaps they may do that.

Either way I'll keep applying and keep trying.

Regards, Tom

Others have posted that if you have job offers that you could expedite your EAD (Employment Auth. Doc). But I personally did not start applying until July as I applied for AOS in June and got EAD in August or September.

OP is hoping to obtain a work visa, not adjusting status.

Very little chance of obtaining a work visa.

The paperwork is initiated by the employer, not employee. They would have to show that they cannot find someone already in the US that could fill the position.

Personal trainer does not fall into an h1b category. There's not a shortage of personal trainers here in the USA.

Youd be better off waiting until you are ready for a k1 visa.

Thanks for your responses.

I was/am aware there is plenty of personal trainers in the U.S. too, but was willing to give it a shot.

I was mainly wondering what it meant to "gain authorisation" as I had seen on various applications for jobs in the form of: "Authorised to work in the USA - Yes/No". And just wondered if there was anything I could do, either way, despite the disheartening response I'll keep trying!

I am a qualified soccer coach too and was offered a job/contract 2 years ago but didn't take it to pursue further education, however that was a 3 month VISA and they sorted it all for you. Different situation. I have that if I was desperate I guess and it's looking that way. I will talk to my partner about the K1, we have spoke about it and getting married in the past so we will see I guess.

If there is anything anyone can do to help I would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Tom

I can't say I've ever heard of a work visa for only 3 months, I could be wrong though.

My first thought reading that was, as is seen on here occasionally, a company convincing you to go to the States on VWP for short term work. Sometimes being very persuasive in convincing you that it's all legit.

Not a good idea.

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

MacUK - it's all legit. Very popular too. Usually you go for 3 months, then if you impress you go for 9 months the next year. A simple google search of "coaching soccer USA" would show you multiple companies in every state. Level 2 FA qualified and above are sought after

As you were advised before at the beginning of the month, and the rules haven't changed since then, the employer sorts the visa for you if they feel you warrant the cost and hassle to do so.

But it sounds like you're young enough to pursue one of those summer camp jobs. Might be something to consider.

It sounds like you are desperate to live in America. Good luck. Let's hope your girlfriend doesn't decide she's desperate to live in the UK and wants to pursue a UK visa. I have seen that happen before. Young man desperate to live stateside decides to find an American girl online. Finds a nice one through a dating website only for her to say "oh you're from England? Amazing! It's my absolute dream to live in England!"
