K1 newbie and confused

Hi there, I am a UK citizen in the process of applying for a K1 visa to live with my American fiancé. He (my American fiancé has applied for and received recipt of form I-129f) and I have submitted the online form DS-160 but have not received anything back apart from confirmation of submission. I have also recieved a "no trace" police certificate. My question is what are the next steps to the process? I have read lots online and am very confused so a step my step guide would be appreciated. Can I go ahead and book a medical exam now? Also I had a J1 visa in June - sept of 2014 would this affect my chances of getting a K1 visa.

Hi, I can't speak to whether or not your J1 will have any effect on your chances....though, I suspect it will not, as long as there was no violation. Here's a link to the K-1 Flowchart, that should help you understand your next steps: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

In addition, you should read the K1 Guide, which you'll find by clicking the "Guides" link at the top of the page. You'll need to access the site using a computer, as you won't see it if you're using a phone.

I am not aware of having other visa messing up your chances, unless you did not abide by the terms of that visa

Once you get to the embassy stage things vary depending on the country. Since you are going through the UK, this in the relevant information for your case.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked at the timeline and I honestly can't fill most of it out as I don't know what the forms are. And no we have not received a form that is NOA2. Have wile missed paper work?

You sent your petition in back over a year ago in January of 2015? I know that TSC was backlogged but I didn't know it was that bad..

It looks like there was another K-1 petitioner from the UK that received their NOA1 from Texas Service Center about a week before you and their NOA2 looks like it was received July of 2015..

Have you checked your case status with the USCIS lately? Does it say it's still being processed?

Yes, that is the NOA-2. Did it say your petition was approved?

You've jumped the gun there. If you haven't received your NOA2, then you haven't even received any formal approval for your case to begin with.

After you send in your initial packet - the I129F with other related forms and evidences, you'll receive (as I assume you have) an NOA1 acknowledging receipt of your case with a case number.

You can't do much of anything else until you hear back from the USCIS in the form of an NOA2, or you receive a request for more evidence, or a denial (unlikely).

So for your part, you must wait patiently.

Things you can do: a police certificate (good you've already got that), making sure you have your long form birth certificate too. Then you should probably start digging around to see what vaccinations you have received as a child. You'll most likely have some more to get, and typically you can get those for cheaper at your own GP rather than when it's time to book your medical.

If you have done a DS160, it's kind of pointless. There's no case for the embassy to match the document up to... neither is there even a case to match up to for making an appointment at Knightsbridge. So that's where you're going to have to wait.

Once you have an NOA2, your case will be sent off to the NVC, checked over once more and then sent off to the embassy. Once you have confirmation of that, you may begin booking your medical appointment, completing the DS160, submitting the electronic notification of readiness form, and paying for the visa.

Once they have those things, you'll get an appointment for your interview.

You probably started posting this before you saw, but the OP did in fact receive the NOA2 (I-797c)

Isn't the NOA1 also an I-797c too technically? Since the OP only mentioned receiving just one document, that's why I want to confirm they have at least received a second one.

Yeah we are still waiting to hear from the OP about what the I-797c said. Though I made the assumption that it was the NOA-2 based on the fact that I had not yet seen the correction that it was in fact 2016 and not 2015 when she filed (over a year without an NOA-2 seemed a little ridiculous) And also that she said she "forgot" to mention she got the I-797c, but has the NOA-1 already in her timeline.

Really, it's all just a cluster with reply times and corrections at this point.
