Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone (hopefully someone who went through the process recently, or has any information) can help me understand which affidavit of support forms to use for the Vancouver US Consulate (as well as a couple other questions below). I still haven't received my NOA2 but am expecting it any day now. My fiancé has seasonal work and one of his parents has offered to be a joint sponsor (since they allow this in Vancouver).

1. When I originally looked into this a month ago, most people on here, as well as other websites, said it was only the I-134 that needs to be filled out (also, expiry date is past so not sure if I should wait for updated one? Thoughts?)

I am confused because when I specifically go to the Vancouver US Consulate Website, on this page https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/appointment-checklist/ under the "fiance" then, "appointment checklist" tabs, it states that these forms are needed

  • Evidence of Support (I-864, I-864A, I-864EZ, I-864W) and photocopy of IRS transcript or photocopy of the most recent Federal income tax return

In the same checklist, it states that the intent letter to get married needs to be brought at the same time, which confirms my idea that this needs to be done at the K-1 visa, not only at the AOS time.

Which ones do I need to fill out?

2. Also, my joint sponsor had a question about the tax forms that need to be supplied. Do they need to be the originals that they send to me or can they be copies? They only have their own copies, not the originals, as it was done on the computer (I believe)- should these be notarized?

3. Along with the evidence of support from above, do the petitioner and joint sponsor need to supply a typed-up affidavit of support that is notarized? or are these forms enough?

Thank you!

Since you're doing the K1, you only need the I-134 and supporting documentation for you & the joint sponsor.

When I went to the Consulate (though I went to Montreal, but I don't think it would be different in Van), I supplied a copy of my 2014 Tax return as I had done mine on the computer. Didn't notarize mine either.

Your forms & supporting documentation should be enough, but make sure you bring along your letter of intent!

Good luck :)

Thank you for your note. Just to clarify I am the beneficiary, so do I still need to bring in my tax form, or are you referring to the Petitioner and joint sponsor bringing their tax forms?

Thanks!

Ah my bad! You don't need to bring any tax info, just the petitioner and his/her joint sponsor's tax info.

Also, don't forget you'll need their original signatures on the I-134's - you would not believe how many people we saw at the Consulate who didn't have those original signatures and were then thrown into AP purgatory.

Haha! So they should just print out the tax forms and give me what they printed out? Or should I have a second copy of those too, and bring both the originals and copies to the interview?

Haha ok to be ultra clear:

Copies of taxes are fine. No original signatures needed here.

Affadavit of support needs original signatures - don't bring copies! Have the forms mailed to you if necessary.
