Petitoner NEEDS to attend?

Alright so I have the interview date for less than a month away. I am really wondering what are the chances of being denied if the petitioner doesn't attend the interview??? ? Also any websites for flights to SDQ same week as Semana Santa and it's extremely expensive. Help please..

Well for DR you need to have a good excuse for not attending! I know of one person who didnt go and was approved but they were ill. I would email them and see if they can help you change your cita...

well my fiance has his interview on monday morning, but i work 2 jobs and flights are crazy expensive, i had my job write a letter explaining that this is a busy time of year for us, and i tried to get off of work, but they could not allow me to take those days off. they signed and stamped it. Is this going to be sufficient ? I would be devastated if we get denied due to work

I hope for your sake it will. Just pray for the best. I just haven't seen anyone get approved without both being present. Good Luck though.. Maybe you can email them before his interview and ask if it is a problem, and if the letter from your job is sufficient. If it is an issue, ask them to change the interview date for when you could go. I would do this rather than leave it for a surprise! Starting a whole new petition could be quite costly. SantoDomingoVisas@state.gov thats their email address, they respond pretty quick so get on it! lol. Make sure you include your case number name and husbands name and DOB in the email!

Being it is the DR I would advise the petitioner to err on the side of caution and attend.

While my wife and I were waiting (what seemed like forever) for our interview she made small talk to a young lady who sat next to us. It sounded like here and her fiance had a legit relationship. She was denied. We caught up with her outside the Embassy and when my wife asked her what happened she kind of shrugged her shoulders. She said the Co asked where was her fiance, why he wasn't there, when was the last time she spoke to him. So it seemed like him not being there didn't help but there could have been other reasons for the denial.

Yes, the Dominican Republic requires that the petitioner be there. An another note, if you are petitioning children of your spouse, they recommend that the petitioner is present ... even if your spouse is already in the U.S.

I would contact the embassy and reschedule the interview to a date that is sufficient for you. Probably work extra days and overtime so that you can ask for the same days off from both jobs and then ask for an interview when appropriate.

man that's pretty scary, that simply not being able to attend will cause you a denial. I have sufficient evidence of our 3 year relationship, but i guess sometimes things happen for a reason. I think it was the stress over all of this that caused me to get sick, but I ended up at the doctors today with an ear infection... anyways, so it just so happens that my doctors note gets me out of work until wednesday. I'll be hopping on a plane on sunday, returning on tuesday. That was the fastest i've ever spent 700 (on the plane ticket) but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if he got denied over me. Thank you all for your responses, the Dominican does things a little different than other countries I'm learning
