So I just came back my first international trip as a US citizen. Wanted to share my experience.

Pros:

- No more Schengen visa needed (at least for me). I previously had 4 or 5 Schengen visas for which the application paperwork/traveling to consulate twice/pay for visa/etc always sucked. Finally easy traveling to Europe. I definitely would like to take advantage of this over the next few years.

- You guys know the boarding security checks on return trips to US, they ask you who packed packages, put stickers behind passports, etc.. The questioning definitely felt much much quicker with the US passport. Another plus there.

- Coming back to US, no more fingerprinting.

Cons:

- Dept of State/CBP database's still has your record from past. I had this long time issue, my F1 visa (from 2003, expired long time ago) for whatever reason stayed active in their database, and since I was H1B/LPR they always kept me asking if I were a student in the US. One time coming back from Canada (as LPR) they actually referred me to the inspection building, kept me waiting 30 mins just to say ok you can go. Anyway, I thought after I became US citizen the issue would automatically resolve, but the CBP agent again asked me if I were a student here. I was like Grrrrr, do I have to live with this till the end of my life? Today I sent a complaining e-mail to both CBP and DoS, hopefully they will now have an answer for me. Take home message, naturalization doesn't reset your history in the CBP database.

- Other countries typically have separate passport lines for their citizens, but apparently at Boston Logan airport they do not. US citizens/LPRs/even visa waiver country passports go through the same line. So no advantage here but one plus traveling with an infant, once they saw us with the baby, they let us by-pass the entire line and directed to the CBP kiosk immediately. We were the last ones to get off the plane but thanks to the nice lady, didn't take too long to pass passport control.

Unfortunately the NBC did not forward my file to my Field Office. They could not interview me so now they have to reschedule. I am waiting for another letter. They are annoying.

Shoot... sorry to hear that. I think this is a common reason for rescheduled interviews. Did you find this out on day of interview or were they nice enough to call you ahead of time?

They called me the afternoon before but I decided to go anyways since the lady who called had the wrong A Number, asked me when I moved from New York yet I have never lived there. I was like I am not sure who this person calling is so I said I will find out myself on the interview. Turns out it was true.
