Finally I am a citizen of the United States of America. Sworn in today at Faneuil Hall in Boston. It was a very nice ceremony, but little different than what I expected. Here are the details; I arrived at Faneuil Hall around 1145am, oath letter said 1205pm. It was a very hot day in Boston ~90F, not sure if it is because of that but they were already letting people in. Didn't wait too long outside and I entered the hall in 5 mins. They directed me to the right side of the hall based on the color of my letter. Around 1225pm they started checking in the applicants. I surrendered my green card at that point and took the standard new citizen package documents on citizens' rights, letter from President Obama, voter registration, passport application docs, etc. 1:15ish all check ins were completed, another 5 mins later they described what was in the package. At 1:40 Judge Bowler walked in the hall and the ceremony started. I was expecting lots of speeches and such first but they immediately proceeded with swearing in the new citizens. 361 new American citizens were sworn in. I again expected they'd announce the list of countries swearing in today but they didn't do that. No congratulatory video from President Obama either. Judge gave a 10-12 min nice talk, they then had 3 kids who won a immigration related essay contest read their essays. At around 2:05pm we took pledge of allegiance to the flag and the Judge walked out of the hall. They then asked the guest to leave at that point and around 2:15 they started handing out the certificate of naturalization. At 2:27 I walked out of the Hall. It was very well organized and prompt ceremony. I didn't feel the waiting was long.

I took my citizenship oath this afternoon with 361 other individuals at the Great Hall in Faneuil Hall, Boston. With that moving ceremony, I am glad that this long journey is now over.

I passed interview today.

The whole process was easy, calm, friendly yet professional. He asked me about Nepal, his son who is an attorney his happy family and so forth and so on. It was about 30 minutes from start to end.

Sequence he followed:

  1. Oath
  2. N400- applicant info
  3. Talked about his family
  4. N400-yes/no section
  5. Talked about his son
  6. Asked me 6 questions
  7. He asked me to read a sentence.
  8. He asked me to write a word
  9. He shared his knowledge about Nepal
  10. "Congratulations, you passed. Here is your approval letter, but I need a copy. Copy matchine is one the way to exit. Let's walk.", he said.

I was too serious about the interview. It was a lot better than I expected.

I think he is an Iranian or Syrian origin.

Also, for those who either have taken the oath or in line for oath or oath scheduled: how long does it usually take to get notification of in line for oath notification from interview date?

They know that it takes 4 business days to get an mail.

Don't worry, we had a terrible interview experience too, a very aggressive IO, but in the end the supervisor signed off no problem! I'm sure it'll be the same for you!!

On the other hand, though.... guys, I need your help!!! :-O

My interview was last Tuesday. I was freaking out for the same reason as Shounok, wondering if I was going to be approved or not because my IO was so terrible, but then Friday afternoon I got a text saying straightaway that my oath had been scheduled! I was super happy, especially since I knew there was an August date coming up for Santa Ana/ Los Angeles oath ceremony a little less than 4 weeks out at that point, so I was positive that I had been put into that one!

I took my citizenship oath this afternoon with 361 other individuals at the Great Hall in Faneuil Hall, Boston. With that moving ceremony, I am glad that this long journey is now over.

Congrats! We were in the same ceremony then. Too bad they didn't ask people to stand up in order of their former nationalities, we could've spotted each other.

Just a note for future Boston filers, all four Boston filers in this thread followed consistent timelines. Dubsi was fortunate to be done in less than 3.5 months by sneaking in the 6/16 ceremony but Kris_Hetfield, YoungHamlet, and I were all done in 4 months. Boston office is certainly ahead of other similar-sized big cities with its N400 processing pace. I doubt they could keep up this pace with the increasing N400 applications this year but it is affecting all other offices. Good luck to you all!

And nice timing with your applications... just two years ago, Boston, along with Atlanta, Seattle, and Santa Ana, were the slowest offices in the country. I think they've all sped up, but Boston and Atlanta appear to have sped up the most; they're still not as fast as some other cities, but they've almost certainly been faster than average so far this year.

I agree that we might see a slowdown during the second half of the year, but I think that'll be everywhere.

Just got the text to check the USCIS site, and my husband's case was updated; they have scheduled his interview and will mail the notice. So we don't know the date yet, but it should be here soon. It's almost always 5 weeks (to the day) from the update; so you are looking at an interview date of Friday, August 26th, plus or minus a business day or two. Some offices don't do Friday interviews, some (including Houston) do Friday and Saturday interviews.

I think you will be spot on in your estimate, so it looks like he will miss the August ceremony, which looks like it will be on August 24th. Hopefully he will be scheduled for the September ceremony (assuming all goes smoothly). I will urge him to read about your interview and oath ceremony experience--your write up is so great to have.

Hey guys, we haven't heard back from you a while. Do you have any updates to add to the timeline table?

FINALLY HOUSTON STARTS TO SCHEDULE INTERVIEW FOR MARCH FILER..

Finally see an update online (did not receive a text or email- although I did for the first stage) that our interview was scheduled (the update was on 6/28) not sure when it will be.

Yeah, odds are you'll miss the August ceremony, but if all goes well, you should be scheduled for the September 21st ceremony. Just FYI. that's the last ceremony before the Texas voter registration deadline for the presidential election. The deadline is October 11th and the next ceremony is October 19th). Some states (like California) allow late registration for new citizens, but as far as I know, Texas does not.
