So I passed my interview!

My appointment time was 7:55am. I was a bit early but there was already a long line at the NYC office. i was sent into an overflow room with fewer people, and about 30min after that I was called.

My IO was nice enough, at first she was all business. I did the oath to tell the truth, then we sat down and I handed over my various forms of ID. She asked me the following questions:

1. What group of people was taken to America and sold as slaves?

2. Who makes federal laws?

3. Who is the vice president of the united states?

4. What is the highest court in the united states?

5. How many amendments does the constitution have?

6. Why did the colonists fight the British?

I got all 6, so she moved on. I had to read something about "Who appoints the representatives" and had to write "The people appoint our representatives" or something like that. English is my first language so that took zero time.

She then went through my application, it was all very straightforward. Her English was terrible and I had huge issues understanding what she was saying most of the time, but luckily I saw my application in front of her and was able to see when I'd checked no/yes and answer accordingly. Also, the interview in the office across from me was NOT going well, the IO was yelling at the guy and pacing and saying he was wasting her time, asking the same thing over and over. My IO told the other one to call the supervisor and stop the interview, but she decided to close her office door instead and continue to berate the poor dude.

After everything wrapped up I signed everything I needed to sign, she told me very long stories about her daughter-in-law (since my middle name was her first name, I think), and then I was given the paper that said I was recommended for approval and sent on my way! She didn't even ask me for any of the supporting documentation I brought!

Looking forward to the oath ceremony and being done with USCIS! :)

Hey guys, quick question for you to see if you can give us some advice. Hubby's interview is scheduled for 7/11/16. We have long had tickets to go to Ecuador to visit from July 29 - August 20. I am assuming his oath ceremony will probably be scheduled somewhere during the time we are gone. Do you think it would help any if he mentioned this during his interview to see if they could schedule him for a ceremony after we return? Normally I would want it to happen as soon as possible but in this case I'd rather them schedule farther out to avoid having to reschedule. What do you think?

USC who lived in Manabí, Ecuador with hubby from 2009 - 2013. Hubby became a naturalized American citizen in August 2016. Currently living together in northern Virginia.

Yeah, it's probably for the best to bring it up during the interview. It saves you the headache of having to deal with USCIS further after the initial scheduling as that could probably take a while to process in and of itself. Plus the interviewer will appreciate you guys bringing this up ahead of time. So go for it.

Went for my interview yesterday in San Bernardino.

My appointment time was 9:30am. I was a little early but there was not too many people waiting and I ended up getting called at around 9:20am. All in all, the whole process took around 7 minutes.

My IO was nice enough, but all business.

Handed over my ID, then he had me read "what do we pay the government?", and had me write "we pay taxes to the government".

He said that he was changing my application to applying based on the 5 year rule - I had applied under the three year rule based on marriage, even though I was eligible for the five year rule. He said the five year one was less hassle and less documents needed.

I did the oath to tell the truth, then he launched into the questions:

1. What is the constitution? This one I now know I got wrong, and I am a little mad about it. The book and the CD has the question "What is the supreme law of the land", with the answer "The Constitution". He went all Jeopardy on me and asked the answer in the form of a question. So he asked what is the constitution, I should have answered "the supreme law of the land". My brain had learned all the questions and answers exactly as in the book, so it threw me off when a question was asked that wasn't worded exactly like the book. I thought it was not very fair, and a little sneaky, but it is what it is. I answered like he asked me what does the constitution do. :bonk:

2. How many senators are there?

3. Who was President during world war 1?

4. What is an amendment?

5. When is the last day you can file taxes?

6. What did the emancipation proclamation do?

7. In what month do we vote for President?

He then spent all of thirty seconds going through my application and checking everything off with his red pen, then had me sign in the relevant places. Asked me if I had ever been arrested or in jail. Didn't even confirm the yes/no questions on the application, just put a check mark next to each one.

He then said I was recommended for approval and he gave me the paper that said the same. Told me that I'd be getting my oath ceremony notification "sometime in the future, could be up to three months" (hoping that it will be sooner based on everyone else's timelines). And then I was out.

I realized as I sat in my car, that technically I had not declared a speeding ticket I got in 2011 (just a fine, all paid, but I have zero evidence of it etc). Oh well, not even sure if I should have, but who cares now?

Looking at the schedule of oath ceremonies at the LA Convention Center, I am hoping that I can sneak in to the July 20 ceremony. If not, it will probably be the August 11 ceremony.

Almost to the end of the process!

Finally see an update online (did not receive a text or email- although I did for the first stage) that our interview was scheduled (the update was on 6/28) not sure when it will be. Also from the sounds of it the Grand Rapids, MI oaths are pretty back-logged.

Thanks!
