Well..... my N-400 packet was lost by USPS. Even though it had tracking, signature confirmation, was certified, etc... anyone have any ideas as to what to do now? I'm not sure whether to re-do the packet and send it all in again, but risk having them charge me twice if and when they ever receive the first, lost packet? Or being patient as the Postmaster is telling us, and waiting 30 days for USPS to conduct an official search for it?

Did you track the package because the tracking should tell you where it is and the post office should be able to retrieve additional information on the tracking #.

Guys I would suggest that for such an important step in our lives that we spend a few extra bucks and go Priority Mail Express via USPS or an acceptable courier service. With express it gets there the next day or 2 days depending on the distance, but it is guaranteed money back if it's not delivered when they say it would. Comes with tracking and is the best way to send for this sort of business. It's around $22 for the flat rate envelop. I think the value of our paperwork is worth the price.

I definitely agree to that! Especially in retrospect.

Yes, I had a tracking number, + certified + insurance + everything else, but the tracking number was never updated past "accepted". I didn't drop it in a post office box, but handed it straight to the employee at the counter and watched them stamp the acceptance stamp on the package and put it in the corresponding drop box.

The postmaster at the accepting post office, the postmaster at the sorting facility, and the postmaster at the destination post office in Phoenix are all at a loss, and have not been able to find it anywhere. The tracking number is no good unless it's scanned, and according to the various postmasters sometimes they aren't scanned until the destination sorting facility... in which case it could be anywhere between here and there!

In retrospect, I would definitely recommend overnighting the application. Things can always get lost, no matter how you send them, but for something so important... I would recommend sending it the best way possible!

Guys, the most reliable way to send your N400 package is to use UPS.

I sent my package via UPS and they charged me just $10 which is 2 times cheaper than to send via USPS.

P.S.: I have no affiliation with UPS.

I totally agree there are many good reliable ways to send the package and most of the times it gets there. The choice is yours. I have used quite a few with minimal mishaps. But.....for documents like these I use a service that if in a "I never want it to happen to me world" my papers get lost, I want a guarantee that at least I get my money back for insuffiient service. Good investment is key when the stakes are high.

I think you should wait. I has christmas package was lost just few months ago (I know it's not as important lol) but it was found in less than 2 weeks. If u are not in a rush I would just wait and see. the only reason I want to speed this process is because we moving overseas in June because of my husband's job. but If it wasn't for that I wouldn't care i'll let them take their time investgating. it's really up to you and your situation. :)

Ahh we're supposed to be moving overseas in June as well, my husband got a job transfer! That's why I'm so stressed with the timing. :clock:;)

How are you guys planning on doing it as far as time goes? Do you think you'll be able to get your interview and your oath/ passport in time before leaving? I've been worrying about getting everything done on time, and as far as our interviewing office goes, it looks like it's going to be really tight...!

I've been worrying about getting everything done on time, and as far as our interviewing office goes, it looks like it's going to be really tight...!

oh no, well I would go a head and just prepare another package so atleast you do the biometric before you go, you don't want coming back 3 times. I really hope we get an interview by June and just come back once for the oath. but if it doesn't I am just going to change my address and have my mother in law open my mail and i'll have to come back. I read some people requested an office that do interview and oath same day if approved. I have to research it.
