I am about to send my AOS package. My dad is my joint sponsor. He filed his taxes as married filing jointly. Is it ok to put the amount from his 1040? It also includes my moms income but she is not sponsoring anyone. I have yet to find a conclusive answer on this topic. Thanks!

If your dad is the only sponsor and his W-2 income exceeds the poverty line limits(after the size of household and dependents) then you should have no problem just sending his W-2's. If not, your mom would also need to fill another joint sponsor form.

I'm sorry I meant to say the amount form his 1040 (which also includes my mom's income.) He is easily above the poverty line without my mom that is why she isn't also a joint sponsor.

That is good then. Also include his W-2's and Tax Return Transcript.

Use the amount from his (joint) 1040. But make sure to include his W2, employment letter, etc that shows what his individual income is.

Check Step 4 of the NVC processing as explained in this NVC webpage. Scroll to 'Obtain financial evidence' and check next to 'Evidence of income', it states:

Evidence of income If you completed Form I-864, I-864A, or I-864EZ and the income reported on this form or your tax return reflects income below the poverty guidelines for the year the form was submitted, submit evidence of your income. This can include the following documents:

• For those who are employed by an individual or company, submit a photocopy of an employment letter, pay stub, or pay advance (direct-deposit receipt) that meets the criteria below:
  • Includes your name and the company’s name;
  • Is on signed, business letterhead (you cannot sign the letter yourself); and
  • Is issued within the last three months.
• For those who are self-employed, obtain a photocopy of one of the following:
  • Your business license.
  • A signed letter on business letterhead that was written within in the last three months.
  • A contract between you as an independent contractor and a company.
• For those who are unemployed or retired, submit a photocopy of ongoing income from other means, such as:
  • retirement benefits;
  • other household members' income; or
  • other significant assets.
• If you are currently self-employed in any of the following ways, you do not need to obtain submit evidence of income:
  • Babysitter, elderly caretaker, construction worker, handyperson, housekeeper, landlord, musician, nanny, seamstress, tailor, artist, or writer.

In OP's case, the employment letter or W-2 or pay stubs are also significant as the OP's sponsor filed taxes jointly with his spouse (who is not sponsoring) and therefore it is important to show the individual income source and amount of his sponsor, separate from his sponsor's spouse.

Thanks everyone. I ended up putting the total amount from the 1040. They have enough info form the w2 to figure out exactly how much is from my dad. I'll update and let you know if I get a checklist or not.

Im on the same boat Tyler... I am the petitioner and the only sponsor, because my individual income is well above the poverty guide line, but I did not know what to put on:

Part 6. Sponsor's Employment and Income.

Question 19 My total income (adjusted gross income on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal income tax returns for the most recent three yeas was:

Here I have the same issue, my total adjusted gross income as reported on my Federal income tax returns includes my husband's income as well, not just mine. I had read that if I put both our incomes, they will send me a checklist asking him to sign a joint sponsor form, but we don't need him to be a joint sponsor, my own income covers it. So what number would I put here? it's telling me to put the number on my tax return form, but that number is incorrect.

These forms are very confusing, and don't take into account everyones individual situation.

Please let me know as soon as you get approved, or if you get a checklist (hopefuly not :/ )
