We split after we got sick of having cameras on us everywhere -- speed cameras, traffic cameras, etc. It's ridiculous that I couldn't even go out to get the paper on foot without getting snapped at least three times during the five minute round trip.

The traditional lack of a right to privacy in English common law was something that as an American in law school over there boggled the mind. Really the only way (and probably still the only way -- forgive me, but I don't keep up with developments in English law anymore) at the time to enforce any breach of privacy was through the European Convention on Human Rights, as effected through the Human Rights Act, and based on a "breach of confidence." Totally bogus.

I left as a kid, so had no say in the matter, but I'm glad my parents took us out. I can't believe they still have a monarchy. Even though it's mainly symbolic, it isn't entirely symbolic. I find the concept of royalty an affront to human rights, not even joking. It's really vile in the modern age.

Unfortunately I think we will end up with just as many cameras in the US eventually and we will absolutely not have privacy in public of any sort. But, in the home we need it. Willy nilly looking at what people do online is a gross invasion by any standard.

But, if it saves one life! And what about the pedophiles! Two BS arguments often used to shut down the resistance when people want to steamroll privacy.

Sadly, agreed. The Fourth Amendment is on life support, and a couple more bad Supreme Court decisions (or even one landmark one) will send it to its full death.
