Has any any filled out form W-7 for spouse Individual Taxpayer Identification Number? My wife is in India, so does she have to sign the form or I can sign that?

Also do i have to submit the original documents (birth certi probably) or can I send photo copies?

Another option i was thinking about was filing a tax extension, is it a good idea to file and extension? Any thoughts, suggestion ?

Thank you guys!

Good luck to all of us!

You're at NVC she's almost home and will get SSN. Why go through all the bother?

To get a ITIN you need

  1. Signed W7 from immigrant
  2. Signed tax forms by the immigrant
  3. A certified copy of passport (Go to embassy and get that done)

It can take 6 months to get one by then I am sure she will be here so why not just wait. File an extension.

This is not what ITIN's are suppose to be used for. If a SSN is imminent you should bot be requesting one.

Thank you so much dwheels for clearing things up, I was thinking the same. Filing for an extension is the best option.

Got check-listed but we assume full responsibility. All I can suggest is to read and re-read all the material on Dwheels' post and especially NVC's website. Do not rush things!! :reading:

Luckily, we submitted our packages electronically, resent the correct document and it's been already received and in process again. I'm hoping it will take less than 2 weeks for CC. Meh what a d*mb mistake and useless delay :bonk:
