That is exactly what I mean..patience wasn't my strong suit either but now I have learned to just wait...afterall that is the only option.

LOL....yes..."just wait"....The motto for dealing with government agencies; "Hurry up and WAIT"

**side note**

In doing some research on obtaining tax transcripts if returns are mailed in, I found on the irs.gov website that one can expect to wait 4 weeks before a "status" of return is available after mailing. So, that would mean that it would take 4 weeks or longer (depending on processing times) before one could request a transcript for this years return. I know some have filed for extensions but for those who are not going file for an extension, you might want to keep this in mind when gathering your documentation for the interview. I believe that someone mentioned that the actual 1040 can be used for interview purposes...but if you want a transcript it will take weeks before you are able to request it. Status's can be checked by going to : https://www.irs.gov/Refunds. This link, " Where’s My Refund?" , has a tracker that displays progress through three stages: (1) Return Received, (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent."

OMG I think I can finally get a little excited. I really never thought I would make it this far. I am a researcher of many things an have always prided myself with being about to figure anything out. But I have to say this process has been a nightmare. Each step I was for sure that I had forgotten something or misunderstood what they wanted ... so to make it to this point YAHOO! I initially went to a Lawyer but just couldn't see spending $5000 just for him to do paperwork. Thinking back I still can't see spending that kind of money for someone else to fill out our info. We just passed our 1 1/2 year marriage date and so far we have spent 51 days together =)/ =(

I would rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not ...

A word of advice to all... When you land in the US do visit your local ssn field office to check the status of your ssn application if you had opted for in ds 260. Don't wait for it as you wait for the plastic green card. I realised when I went to ssn office after three weeks that they didn't have any ssn application pending from me and this is when I had opted for it. I filled in a new ssn application form there. After this it takes two days to get the ssn assigned meaning now you can get your number and get going with the things you immediately need the ssn for. And within two weeks the actual card will arrive in mail.

The plastic green card comes when it comes. Will enquirer with uscis field office here if don't get it in 60 days. Apparently 60 days is what you wait before making a complaint.

Thanks so much, I'm glad you shared this. My husband is coming up on 21 days already and many say the SSN will arrive (I checked yes in the application) but I don't trust the system so much.

We went to the SS admin couple of weeks ago and they told us to wait 21 days then go back and apply.

I'm still stuck in Ready mode (Ready for Interview) from the 16th. Apparently the CEAC system has glitches in it and does not always update. I read somewhere on these boards that it is not always an accurate assessment of where things are at. Hopefully it is issued in the next few days. :)

Frank, you got any pull in Montreal? Ha...

Issued! :)

Hello community!

So excited and prepping for my interview with MTL on April 15th!

Two Questions --

On our Interview Letter, it says we need to show PROOF OF APPLICANT'S LEGAL RESIDENCE, we got a 'J' next to the letter, which means "we sent in a photocopy and they need the original" -- but I only submitted my passport, birth cert, police cert, and marriage cert. ANY IDEA WHAT THIS CIVIL DOC IS? Or what I need to prove that I live in Canada legally? OR is this my Husband's US PASSPORT to prove he lives in the US legally as a citizen? Confused by the term 'Applicant' here.

also --

In the P4 document for the MTL consulate, it says that Step 5 for preparation is to: Obtain the ORIGINAL I-864 AOS and copy of recent US Tax Returns,

We sent the Original copy to NVC with the returns and in our Interview letter we got a 'Y', which says that NVC sent it to Consulate. Typing this now, I guess it's safe to assume NVC sent the originals to the consulate and as long as we show the photocopies during the interview we should be fine? No need to re type out an 'original' I-864?

Any confirmation at this point greatly appreciated. Just trying to make sure every single document is in order for the interview to go smoothly. We've waited WAY too long for anymore delays. (ten months and counting... overall process over 1 year and a half)

THANK YOU

J

So when I looked back at my P4 letter, my Proof of applicant's legal residence was S (we did Electronic Processing, so I scanned everything for them). I brought a photocopy of my DL, and brought my DL and a couple paystubs showing my address to the interview. They didn't ask for anything for my proof of address. I'm not sure why we got flagged to bring that.

And for your second question, yes if they have the original, you could bring in a copy, but you'll be fine there.

Awesome thanks!!

So it IS my CANADIAN proof of legal residence I have to show? So I'm guessing Bills with my name and address, DL and Library cards and such? So silly -- where else would I be LIVING RIGHT now if I can't enter the States!? lol

THANK YOU for the quick reply though! much appreciated!

You need to prove you have the right to interview in Canada, which means your Canadian passport or your Canadian residency visa.

I called the NVC for clarification on what exactly the interview letter was saying to bring. The rep was super helpful and knowledgeable about the letter and what the codes meant as far as what documents to bring. Really put me at ease.
