Medical in Dominican Republic

Hi,

I previously posted a topic with this same information but haven't gotten no responses and we want to start moving forward as what we need to do after we receive our appointment letter.

Now, I have a few questions regarding the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC pre-interview process.

1) Is it true that NVC or the Embassy here gives us the appointment for the medical? Or do we make it ourselves (orden de llegada)?

2) Do we have to wait for the letter to arrive at home or can we just print the letter they sent us through email for the medical clearance?

3) Are we suppose to do fingerprints? Before or After medical? Can we do both same day? Appointment?

4) Am I suppose to take all of the Affidavit of Support documents we submitted to NVC? Tax transcripts??!

Also, any tips, advice, recommendations for our interview here in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, we will greatly appreciate it!

I'm speaking from the experience of doing a K1, so I'm not sure if there are any differences.

1. We scheduled the appointments ourselves. Once the CEAC site updated to ready, we completed the visa application on the ustraveldocs site and paid the visa fee at Banco Popular. Once the fee was paid, we were able to schedule the VAC and embassy appointments.

2. Again, not sure if this is different for a K1, but my fiance never received anything in the mail during our process. However, something from the embassy did come to her address about a month after she was here in the U.S. already. Apparently slow mail service, but it didn't affect us at all.

3. My fiance (now wife) went to the VAC appointment for fingerprints and photos one day, and the medical the next day. I'm not sure if the VAC needs to be done first, maybe someone can answer that. The VAC appointment is scheduled, the medical is walk-in. My fiance got to the medical exam at 7am (I think they open at 8, and there was already a line ahead of her), and she was there until around 1:00 or 2:00pm. From what we had read it was recommended to get to the medical early, otherwise you're not guaranteed to get in. And no guarantee of what time you'd be done, so you might not want to try do the VAC on the same day. You sure wouldn't want to miss the appointment time. I think it is also 30-40 minutes of travel between them using public transport. The VAC appointment only took about 15-20 minutes.

4. We took everything we had accumulated through the entire process to the interview, just in case. Affidavit of support, all income and tax documents, everything from our original USCIS filing, originals and copies of every document. At the interview the only thing the CO asked to see were pictures, but we were as prepared as we possibly could be.

For the embassy interview, get there early. we had a 7:00am appointment, and we got there at around 5:45am. There were already probably 60-75 people in the various lines ahead of us, and many, many more as 7:00 approached. We had some bottles of water and few things to snack on, I just think you have to dispose of anything before you get inside. As for our interview, after about a 45 minute wait we were called up to the first window where they asked some verification questions and took the medical packet. after about another 15-20 minutes our number was called again for the interview, where the CO scanned fingerprints, asked a series of questions, and asked to see photos. It was about 5-7 minutes in all. we were out before 8:30am. The whole embassy part ended up being much more pleasant that we had ever thought.

I hope this helps a bit!

1. The embassy will send you a letter that states all that you need to do, which also includes information about getting a medical exam done and where you need to go. You will simply need plan for a day to go to the medical exam place (consultorios de visa) ... EARLY ... and take the letter with you to the medical exam as proof that you were requested to have a medical exam done ... and then do a lot of waiting for the medical exam to take place. As I recall, only the beneficiary will be allowed in ... so the petitioner does not need to attend the medical exam, and if he/she does make that trip, they will be waiting outside ... for hours ...

2. In my experience, we received the letter about 2 1/2 weeks before our interview, but I believe you should be able to print the email and take it with you. This is assuming they sent you the same documents via email that they supposedly sent via regular mail.

3. I can't speak on this, but I trust the poster before me. :)

4. Take everything. It is better to have something and not need it, than to need something and not have it.

Advice: relax, make sure your spouse is prepared on possible interview questions (our officer had a photo of my family members and asked my wife who they were and their name .... consequently, my wife had 3 kids from a prior marriage and the officer asked for their names from me.) Just be prepared ... like a Boy Scout. :)

Get there early .... lines get longer the later in the morning it gets before they open.

Do not take any sunglasses or cell phones with you. You won't be able to bring them in the embassy.
