I'm in a confusing situation. I hope someone can help out.

Two days ago, my wife and I were happy after receiving an email from the NVC. They completed the pre-processing for my wife's visa and that everything would be forwarded to the US consulate in Rio de Janeiro. The email included an interview date. Yeah!

The next day, we received another NVC email saying that some documents were "missing" or "additional information" was needed. The documents in question were the affidavit of support and proof of domicile. They recommended bringing another affidavit of support from a different sponsor and proof of domicile to the interview. I was shocked. In my I-864 package, I thought I had addressed both issues exceptionally clearly. My yearly income was slightly below the cut-off, but my liquid financial assets are almost 300K; I provided a bunch of financial documents as proof. As for the domicile issue, I included a additional cover letter with supporting documents from banks and financial institutions (as well as my valid driver's license) that connected me to the US address.

I called the NVC immediately this morning. They told me that there's nothing that they can do and that everything is in the hands of the US consulate in Rio.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Everything you sent to NVC have at the interview. Sometimes those emails are just false checklist type. I know NVC doesn't care about domicile issues that's something you need to show at interview.

Everything looks and sounds good what you mentioned you most def have it all under control.

I would like to dd you to my spreadsheet but your timeline isn't complete.

You're using assets to meet part of the financial requirements. Whether to approve assets or not is at the discretion of the CO interviewing you, so that's why you got a checklist saying you may need a joint sponsor. We got the same from NVC but never needed a joint sponsor.

Hello everybody,

Thanks again for the advice. Before our interview on April 14th, I had armed myself with all the latest financial and domicile documents I could find. Unfortunately, they didn't ask to see a single one! My wife was approved and she received her visa 8 days later.

The only downside was the incredibly disorganized and long wait at the Rio consulate for the interview. We were scheduled for 9:20 so we arrived a bit earlier at 9:00. We didn't talk to a human until 11:30. We didn't have everything wrapped up until 1:30pm and had to run to check out of our hotel.

Good luck!
