Hi STG,

Are you from Queens? -- meaning your field office is Queens (your profile says Queens), or was it Manhattan, how can one tell? Please let me know, thanks. :) I am tracking people from NYC in general.

I do live in Queens, but I filed from the Bronx, so i guess that falls under the Manhattan office?

Hello Everyone!

We live in NYC and got married on January 15, 2016. We took about a month and gathered all our materials and submitted through a lawyer, March 8th. My husband is the one needing the greencard (he's Italian) and we've received his Employment Authorization Card and his Social Security Card, all in very timely fashion, however, we're STILL waiting for our Greencard interview.

This is what it says when I look it up on the website: "As of April 18, 2016, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status..."

Is it so common to wait so long? I'm seeing other people who got married after us and submitted after us already getting their green cards... congrats everyone.... but I'm in agony waiting for this whole thing to be over. As of now it's been 117 business days since being "ready to schedule" ,(excluding saturdays, sundays, and minus government holidays), 166 calendar days overall - is going past 5 overall months.

Is there anything else I can do to expedite, or to at least be able to know when we will be notified about this interview? It's really really really holding things up in our professional lives as we are delaying a move to another city possibly, and we were hoping to be able to spend January with his side of our family abroad since he has a lot of relatives VERY near death. As an American it's SO frustrating to be waiting and on hold with my own government!

Any other Adjustment of Status Filers in NYC from March? Is this waiting period normal?

I suppose it is only useful to compare timelines to only the other people who also submitted around the same time to your your same local office.

@NYC people: My husband and I live in Queens, but our lawyer -whose office is in Manhattan- submitted our paperwork. How do we know which office our form was submitted to?

Also it seems my fellow NY-ers are starting to get scheduled for late October / early November. I have a feeling that my interview is going to be scheduled smack dab in the center when I was hoping to be out of town for an extended period, because that is the way life & luck always seem work... Sigh. Make this end!

Also what does this date calculator on the site mean about October 2015? So confused....

I don't know if any time frame is "common". It depends on where it is being processed and the officer processing it. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

You stated that you received the EAD card. Since most people apply for the so called combo card, EAD and Advance Parole, I assume you did the same. If that is the case, you can travel without having the green card in hand. If you didn't, maybe you can look into applying for Advance Parole, it might still be faster than the green card.

Secondly, I would call and ask to speak to a tier 2 officer. If you are beyond "normal processing time" you can put in a service request online.

Update: I really don't understand this process.

We are still waiting for the RFE to come in the mail, they according to the website it was mailed on August 31, 2016. I called the USCIS today to see when it was mailed, I was told to wait 15 business days and give them a call back. Still waiting to receive RFE in the mail I called USCIS, on September 29, 2016 to find out again when they will be sending the hard copy of the RFE in the mail no one can give me a clear answer, the date to respond to the RFE expire on September 30, 2016.

We have the Combo Card, but the way the instructions read, they seemed to imply that if you leave the country and then try coming back in, that there might be problems or things could become tricky or mess up our pending application. Is that true? My lawyer basically said - just don't leave the country. they don't want to see you traveling. They want to see that you want to be here. Ultimately we are so close to the usual timeline of the interview that I'm scared to leave the country only to find out our interview date is right in the middle of our trip abroad! Haha.

Thanks for all the other information! I'm gonna make the call today to see if there is anything they can tell me about the application.

I am also from Manhattan, no news on the interview. I think we are close, but we still have to wait.

I have the combo card as well and traveled abroad with it two weeks ago. When I came back, I needed to be paroled in, so after being asked many questions by the border patrol officer, I was taken to the "detention room" for them to check my documents. They didn't ask anything additional. It was a 7-10 minutes process. They were nice and didn't say anything about me traveling. I will travel again for Thanksgiving week.

I've read many cases of people working with the combo card and their jobs requiring them to travel abroad, so they travel a lot with the card without any issues. My lawyer didn't warn me about traveling with the card. That is what it is for. I'm also nervous because I don't want the interview to fall when I'm abroad and my spouse also has to travel for work around those dates.

Anyway, we still have to wait. New Yorkers from the first week of March have interviews scheduled for the end of October.

I don't want to counter what your lawyer is advising you to do. However, I've been part of this process and have been reading posts on this site for almost a year now. I've read plenty of examples of people travelling and having no problem coming back to the US. Of course if you stay away for weeks on end, it might be a different story. Be reasonable.

Interviews,as far as I have read, are usually 1 month out from when you receive the notice that it has been scheduled.

When we had my wife's passport stamped with the I-551 (Green Card until the physical card arrives), the officer told us that we will also be subject to a "secondary" inspection when we come back to the US. His explanation was that is to verify your identity, since the Green card has not officially been issued (printed) yet and the system hasn't caught up yet.

Filed: Timeline

We are also from Queens, filed March 9 from lawyer's office in Long Island. I have seen one person from Queens in this forum who filed in January and recently got an interview for Oct or Nov. I think you should expect yours soon.

The processing times means that as of July 31, 2016, they are processing cases of October 2015. If the trend is the same (which is not), by today you could predict that they are processing cases filed January 2016.

Queens is super delayed that it only moved 5 days if I am not mistaken. You could check it under the same processing times link and choose Queens.

I really do not understand how the website can be almost a year off..... is there something I'm not understanding?

They are processing means they are interviewing? I'm so confused.
