US Driving Licence was issued for only 9 months

Dear All,

I passed my US driving Licence in VA last week and today I received my DL photo card in mail, when I checked the exp date it showed: 11/05/2016 on card and restriction '9'.

So my DL is valid only 9 months. My EAD is valid for 1 year (exp Jan 2017) and I am expecting my Green card later this year.

-What does this mean? Do I have to wait for my GC to arrive then I can renew my DL?

-What do I do when my DL expires in November 2016?

-What is Restriction '9'?

When you get your GC then you will able to renew/extend your DL.

2) if you have the green card renew it, if not and your EAD has been extended show proof of that

You are not alone, majority of us have had this issue. You will just have to renew your DL more frequently, but you are still eligible to drive.

Yeah, it means it's only good until the EAD expires. Then, it'll be good until the GC expires. I (the USC) had to renew my license in FL at the same time that my wife (the then K1 with EAD) had to renew hers. Mine was good for 8 years for $20, hers only until her EAD/GC expired for the same $20. No pro-rating. It sucks but whatcha gonna do?

Not necessarily. I just got my DL in Florida, my GC expire in 2017 because it's a conditional GC I have to apply for ROC. But on 03/10/16 after I pass my road test my DL says class E valid till 2024
