You're playing with semantics now. It's quite simple. Some Muslims consider them to be Muslims, some do not. In any case, "Muslim extremists" is just what they are called because they have self-identified as Muslim. Doesn't mean that what they do should be considered representative of Islam.

Possibly the clearest answer ever given on the subject. Thanks for you honesty Jenn.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

No, it does not mean that what they do is representative of Islam. It only means that what they do is representative of them; saying so only feeds into the ignorance of Islam. They are, after all, self-identified Muslims, and that doesn't connect them in any substantive way with other Muslims who don't share their ideology. Calling oneself Muslim doesn't make you representative of Islam anymore than calling yourself Christian makes you representative of Christ. They and what they do has nothing to do with Islam except that Islam is used as an excuse.

PS - BTW, if it was about simple semantics, then it wouldn't be about opinion. Some Muslims considering them to be Muslims, and some not considering them to be Muslims is not mere semantics.

(Note: I'm not an expert in social culture. I am just an engineer)

Here's what I think that is the cause of all the problems in the middle east. It's those who was mis-informed with the Islam religion, and uses force to assert their beliefs onto others. That's what I believe is the cause for all this mess. The roots of the lies within inheritance from prior generations. Just as in the case with Pol Pot and Joseph Stalin. Why were their communistic style of ruling differ when they both studied Karl Marx theory. Pol Pot nearly killed all his people, and Joseph Stalin nearly starved all his people. What's up with that? It's their interpretations of Karl Marx theory, and using it incorrectly!

I called them "idiots". That's an apt label, imo. Besides, it matters little what they're called nor what they call themselves; it matters more what they do, and what they do is wrong and incompatible with Islam.

Yet they practice Islam. Or you wouldn't have called them Muslims. You really are trying to wiggle out of that comment aren't you? I'm not sure why.

your quote:

"No surprise to me. It's those who stereotype Muslim extremists that are in for a surprise."

I said they didn't know anything about Islam. As such, it is very difficult to practice what you don't know anything about. I did refer to more than a billion Muslims who do not wave the Quran around and don't behead people in contrast to those who call themselves Muslims and are extremists. I'm not sure why you are stuck on the extremists rather than those who are not hateful. I'm not. They're idiots. Nothing I've said that I need to wiggle out of.

Dutch researchers said they suspect one reason why more young women are becoming involved in radical networks in the Netherlands is that they come under the influence of "Moroccan lover boys." Authorities use the phrase to describe charismatic Romeos who manipulate emotionally needy women into committing criminal acts. "These are really down-to-earth things that we should not underestimate," Bakker said.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I'm fascinated by the titles given to them, primarily by non-Muslims.

I believe that would be by Muslims. Correct me if I'm wrong brother Dean.

What? The OP or the article from the Washington Post? All I can say is God help us (as petitoners) if something like this happens from a K-1/K-3 petiton. As difficult as it is right now, this will slam the door shut for some time, and most likely make a 90+day wait through CSC seem like a walk through the park.
