Got Interview, but no info about fingerprints

My wife got her interview date for bombay on April 1st. I ready the entire letter and the state website and there is no mention of biometrics or fingerprint scanning. I am a little puzzled here. When are the fingerprints done, typically they were done the day before.

It's listed under the "Prepare for the Interview" section on the Department of State website.

Half way down the page you'll see a section that says "Review U.S. Embassy or Consulate Interview Instructions." Choose Bombay from the drop down and download the PDF. You'll see mention of fingerprints and photographs listed in step 3.

you'll see the Packet 4 link on the right side under "Interview Preparation."

Please reference where you saw that information. You're going through immigrant visa for spouse, right? I sent you the links directly from the Department of State and Mumbai consulate websites for Immigrant visa.

USCIS has nothing to do with fingerprinting for immigrant visa's in Bombay/Mumbai. Even one of the reviews for the Mumbai embassy, one person mentions not knowing fingerprinting was needed and was told to get that done and come back. It doesn't make sense for the beneficiary in India to come to the US to do fingerprinting.....they are in the process of getting permission to come to the US, how would they get fingerprinting done? your spouse is definitely going to need to get her fingerprinting done before her interview.

Once she lands in the US, she will have to do fingerprinting at immigration (at least DFW airport does that) but that is not related to being prepared for visa interview in Mumbai.

Yes, but my wife's interview letter makes no mention of biometrics. It won't let me copy and paste from us consulate website but search for fingerprints and it will come up

I'm still not finding it, but I did find this...refer to number 1 under Scheduling Your Appointment: http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/immigrant_visas.html

I would say call the consulate directly and ask them to be on the safe side. I would hate for you and your wife to be prepared for everything else and at the last minute stress about this one part.

Let me know what they end up saying so i know what to tell my husband when it's time.

Oh I see what you're talking about now. That's not specific to Mumbai though. That's just generic to the overall process. It's not done that way for all consulates. Does the interview letter make reference to packet 4? You have to go to the Packet 4 which gives you information specific to the consulate you'll be interviewing. You're able to get that through the links I sent you. Packet 4 has all the instructions you need for the interview itself. That I am 100% sure about it. Anyone on this site will tell you the same thing. Anyone for a CR1/IR1 has a Packet 4 for their consulate.

Yup P4=Packet 4.

Step 3 on the PDF for Bombay: Visit http://www.ustraveldocs.com, follow the instructions to create an account, log in, and schedule an appointment to have your photograph and fingerprints captured at one of the five Visa Application Centers in India.

Any biometrics (including fingerprints) will be taken at the VAC.

@jklein I been doing this a long time and India whether Mumbai (Bombay) or New Delhi you have to have your bio-metrics done at the OFC BEFORE your interview or you will not be getting into the embassy on interview day. You need to go to the OFC website and schedule and I would do it soon as possible so those results can be set to embassy.

The P4 doesn't mention Bio-metrics because no way NVC is going to have a tailored made email for every single embassy. Trust what those of us know to be true.

The bio-metrics you mention in US is for those Adjusting status and other things that already live here. You do get another finger print done at airport Immigration. But please go make your appointment and stop arguing.

Now you can take our word or roll the dice and do it your way and go to interview with no bio-metrics. Do report back how it goes.

@jklein.. you may wish to heed other, more experienced advice. Take it from my first-hand experience, applicant must get biometrics done BEFORE their interview date.

Create an account on ustraveldocs, and one of the options is scheduling an ofc appt. Applicant will NOT be let in the embassy without proof of biometrics.

Not risking it, signing up for it. When it says mailing address do I use US or India? Not familiar with this, you all here are more experienced thats why I asked the question, I am just reading what the website states.

Can my wife schedule her biometrics the day before her interview or does it have to have a large gap before her interview? I don't want her to make two separate trips to Bombay? Also is a letter provided after biometrics is done or will it automatically show in the system that her biometrics is done?
