20 Percent Of Donald Trumps Supporters Believe Freeing The Slaves Was A Bad Idea

In case anyone was wondering, Donald Trumps supporters are not exactly the most tolerant people in America.

This fact was further proven you know, besides commentary by Trump himself by data from new public opinion surveys compiled by The New York Times. Featuring responses from exit poll data and January polls by YouGov/Economist and Public Policy Polling, the resulting percentages point to Trump championing a group of voters who have prejudiced ideas.

The results suggest how Mr. Trump has upended the contemporary divide in the party and built a significant part of his coalition of voters on people who are responsive to religious, social and racial intolerance, the report reads.

The numbers present a very worrisome set of ideals from the Republican presidential hopefuls voters. In a Public Policy Polling survey, a third of Trumps supporters in South Carolina support barring gays and lesbians from entering the country, and 70 percent wish the Confederate flag was still being flown at their statehouse. YouGov data shows that a third of Trumps backers believe the Japanese internment during World War II was a good idea, while a striking 20 percent disagreed with Abraham Lincolns Emancipation Proclamation yes, the one that freed slaves.

On Tuesday (Feb. 23), Trump grasped a 45.9 percent Nevada caucus win, after which he said, We won the evangelicals. We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated. Were the smartest people, were the most loyal people.

He also took to Twitter to vow to accomplish the feat Mitt Romney attempted in 2012:

To be fair, I doubt this is exclusive to Trump supporters. This probably holds true for 20% of republicans no matter who they support.

But he's the only one promising the good Ole Days! Yippy!

How come the press never did the same poll with the democrats?

I would like to see this as well. But being that Democrats have a lot of minority support, I doubt the poles would show minorities wishing slavery never ended or wanting internment camps for the Japanese

Because the Dems are trying to court minority voters. You can't ask someone to the dance after calling them ugly.

While there are racists on both sides of the aisle, only the GOP puts their racists on the front lines and they ATTRACT voters. If a democrat comes out and says something racist, they get blasted(at least in the public eye) they apologize and keep it moving. A republican does the same thing, they double down on it and it only increases their fan base(which is simple since most minority voters don't vote GOP either way). I've seen more racist comments at a GOP debate during the last eight years than I've ever seen from a dem debate.

Wow, it's almost like you want to hear if there is more to it. Can you imagine if the press also asked democrats the same thing? I bet a lot of them would disapprove of the proclamation, too. In fact, I bet would even approve of japanese internment...I imagine...

Wouldn't it be funny if the same questions had been asked of clinton and sanders supporters and we found that they were actually more racist than, say, Rubio supporters? Now that would be interesting.

If only somebody had--oh, look what I found:

This is why people really need to look more critically at what the media is telling them. It is into shock headlines. I doubt the same media that will report 20% of Trump supporters disapprove of Lincoln's message will also report that a higher percentage of Rubio supporters than either clinton or sanders did approve it.

Good luck!

Ironic.

Ironic that he's your first choice.

So, now that I gave the rest of the story, what do you bring from it?

A poll about not ending slavery and leaving the Japanese in interment camps?

I don't think Al has anything to do with this. Most minorities wouldn't.

Now members of the Democratic party might secretly meet in Hillary's basement at night during kinky parties with Bill expressing their want for slavery and interment camps, but I highly doubt you'll get 20% of the Democratic fan base to agree with this.

40% is probably low. You just have to look at the sad state of minority communities under decades of democrat policy and its pretty easy to figure out that they are the ones in the rain holding the umbrella for the people they elect.

Pretty funny that sanders and Clinton supporters approve of slavery at higher rates than Rubio, though isn't it? I mean, for a progressive, supposedly minority loving party I wonder how they found so many who think Lincoln shouldn't have freed the slaves. Those evil white republican's who support Rubio seem to support the end of slavery more than the dems. But then Lincoln was a republican after all so maybe it makes sense.

Good luck!
