Will Applying For A B2 Visa Hurt Our Chances With A Different Visa If It's Denied?

So I was asking about the chances of my Moroccan boyfriend getting a Tourist Visa to come visit me here in the USA yesterday and everyone said it's pretty unlikely. However, I would still be inclined to try to file a Visa application while including as much documentation of financial status and non-immigrant intent as possible in the hopes of getting a miracle and having the Visa granted.

What I'm wondering is: If we go ahead with the B2 application and it is denied will that harm our chances of getting a K1 or other type of visa later on if we end up getting engaged/married or will that denial not have any effect on the outcome of a later application?

Just wondering because I would really like to try the B2 and hope for the best but I'm not sure it's worth it if it ends up hurting our chances later on..

Nope! The common issue with the B2 visa denials is suspicion of immigrant intent.

With the K-1 and most other visas, immigrant intent is implied due to the very nature of the visas. (You apply and utilize them to move to the US).

Therefore, being denied a B2 visa because of possible immigrant intent does not harm your chances at getting other visas, because the intent is acceptable and expected at this point.

As long as he is honest at the interview, it should have no bearing. Some people will advise someone who is applying for a tourist visa to "make-up" a spouse, etc. That sort of thing will hurt you - the material misrepresentation that TBoneTX was speaking about.

Okay! Thanks a lot! All of you guys have a been a huge help and support to me!!

You are 100% right about making up false information... If we end up applying for any kind of fiancee or spousal visa later on we would basically be able to kiss our chances goodbye if either one of us was found to have lied about something previously to get him in the country! I would rather wait another year or more to see him than risk our chances of being together permanently later on. If we do end up applying I will advise him not to mention me at all but if he is asked a direct question about our relationship he will have to answer honestly.

I will talk to my boyfriend and see what his thoughts are... I would really like to try for a B2 visa since any option involving me traveling to Morocco is out of the question at the moment so at least if we apply for a B2 we will be making minute forward progress lol.

My wife's mother was denied due to immigrant intent. We found more evidence, reapplied (within one week) and then she was approved.

To get approved, don't just answer their questions. Expand on them. They look for stories and excitement. Just saying I earn this much or I am married isn't enough, even if that's their question.

That's a catch-22.. Expand too much, and inevitably the wrong thing could come out to screw things up. Murphy's Law!
