Interview Passport Question

So my fiance and I finally got our interview date for next month! The question we have now is if they keep your passport. We're under the impression that they will need to keep his passport after the interview. The problem there is that he only has a provisional license and doesn't think he can use that to get on a flight back to Scotland from London or if it's even a valid form of ID for checking in. If not, we're thinking he's going to have to take the train all the way back. Does anyone have any information or tips on this? Thank you!

First ask the airline what will be acceptable to fly back.

If he needs his passport to return home, he can take it with him from the interview. Just tell the interviewer (after he says approved) that the passport is needed for ID to fly home. Then he will have to use the embassy courier to send the passport back to the consulate. They will complete their processing, stick the visa inside, and send the passport via courier back to Scotland.
