Starting evidence collection

Hi everyone!

Just got married in late January so starting to create collect evidence of our marriage. She does not have an ID in her married name yet, so currently our joint bank statements, credit card statements, some utility bills, etc.. are in her maiden name, but we will switch everything to her married name once we get update her Social Security card and get her drivers license in her married name (once we receive her EAD).

Would that be ok with USCIS when they look at our evidence and see statements in her maiden name for the first few months of marriage, followed by statements in her married name for the rest of the time after that?

(Note: We have our electricity bill and cable bill in her married name as they didn't require a government ID in her married name.)

You're welcome. Having old/new names on documents is commonplace with USCIS. No big deal.

You do not need those things to apply for AOS though. The only proof of marriage you need with the initial I-485 filing is a copy of your marriage certificate. IF you have an interview, then take those things with you. Keep saving up those types of evidence for ROC later when they definitely will be needed.

I initially posted this in the ROC section, but was moved to the AOS section since I'm currently in the AOS process haha. Yes, I'll bring the evidence with me if we are called for an interview along with saving them for the ROC. Thanks KayDeeCee!

Hey essjei, we used her married name on the I-485, as that's the name she wanted on her conditional Green Card.

ya, K-1 visa holders going through an adjustment of status, won't have so much evidence to submit with the I-485 if'n the I-485 is filed soon after marriage.

So go ahead and file !

amass your evidence whilst waiting for an interview - but even if'n you don't get the interview (many don't) you still need to keep amassing that evidence for the Removal of Conditions case.
