What happens to a family if the supporter is drafted?

Honestly, beyond all the moving around the military is great for families because of all the benefits and the community. My husband served with the air force for 8 years. The only reason he left was because the specialized job he wanted to do was being phased out. He's not a political (or sometimes tactful) person and didnt want to deal with being higher rank. He likes doing work, not making others do work.

If we were at war and every deployable person in all military branches and the reserves were already out. Then they call selective service which is mandatory for all males in the US between 18 and 26. Since the chances of us going to war in the next year or two is very slim. Dont worry about it to be honest. Not only would it take a while they dont just send you overseas. Youd need to be trained and a job placed. Youd also need citizenship.

Thanks for the clarification.

The missiles you are talking about wont be used in Syria. Remember Israel is next door.

The reserves are also 19 to 26 years old?

Even conventional missiles could flatten the place though. Its just a matter of do we want to. Right now, the USA doesn't want to really go to war again over there. The whole area is a basket case full of problems. And I'd be much more worried about the Saudis and Iran starting to slug it out than Syria. If we had the will, all the troops in Syria, government, ISIS, and assorted rebel groups could be wiped out in a month. And it certainly would not take drafting anyone to do it.

You don't need citizenship to be in the military. It would speed the path to citizenship, but you don't need to be a citizen.

Lot of spouses from military service members have kids and dont work and they are managing. Lot of them live paycheck to paycheck, but they are ok with minimum.

Military provides housing or gives you BAH which usually covers rent or mortgage. In worst case, there is lot of homebased jobs that the spouse can do.

Not to enter or certain jobs no, but if they're sending you overseas to shoot someone, it's likely gonna happen.

Many jobs require a secret clearance too which does require citizenship.

draftees are usually on the cannon fodder list. Unless they have special skills that are needed.

You dont find that out until after boot camp anyhow. Many people who are foreign seem to join the US military mostly to have expedited citizenship.
