What happens to a family if the supporter is drafted?

Do they only draft or call people form selective service within the age 19 to 26?

What I know is that if the US army will be involved in the Syrian War by sending ground troops, like what happened in Vietnam or Iraq, then the army is going to call from the selective service and later maybe draft.

To start, yes only men between 18-26. And those that would be drafted first are unmarried and married without children.

We've been in other wars and they have not drafted anyone since the Vietnam war in the 60's. We have reserves and national guard that they call from first.

There is an order of being drafted as people have previously discussed.

If we did send ground troops it would super minimal. Honestly, why would we want to get involved with something that should really be taken care of regionally? The American people won't support another Iraq type situation, so there is no need to worry.

Where did you get this idea from?

There's plenty of people talking about us going to war in Syria and against Russia. Heck listen to the Republican candidates, they're all talking we should go to war on the ground. That talk might change pretty fast if they're elected though.

With huge improvement of technology, USA only needs to click on the missile launch buttons.

No need to send big troops on the ground.

Correct, people are chanting for the war but they have no idea how things are, especially in Syria.

There's always people chanting for war, that doesn't mean we'll go to war, its politics. But no country in the world can come close to making war like the USA can. We have a large enough standing army that we do not have to draft anyone to go to war. We spend more on the military than the next 8 largest spenders combined.

What a weird thread, and VJ has had some specials.

Not aware of any politician wanting to send ground troops to Syria, why?

Well Rubio has come out for it, but never gave a number of boots on the ground. Carson would put boots in Iraq only. They have gotten more vague about it lately.

You are right with what you said. But in Syria you will need more than missiles and something else than than ground troops.

The right missiles, and nothing would be left to fight a war about over there.

There are enough regular and reserves to not worry about a draft. The US learned their lesson with Vietnam.

The missiles you are talking about wont be used in Syria. Remember Israel is next door.

The reserves are also 19 to 26 years old?

No. The reserves are voluntary. People who are prior military can join and so can everyone else up to a certain age. They still get paid. They're meant for people who want to serve but not full-time. There are some benefits to it obviously.

I signed up with selective service in 2015 and I will be 26 after several month. If they called the people who signed up with selective service after a year for example, will I be called too? Im What cases I might be requested to join the Army?

If we were at war and every deployable person in all military branches and the reserves were already out. Then they call selective service which is mandatory for all males in the US between 18 and 26. Since the chances of us going to war in the next year or two is very slim. Dont worry about it to be honest. Not only would it take a while they dont just send you overseas. Youd need to be trained and a job placed. Youd also need citizenship.
