What happens to a family if the supporter is drafted?

So I was thinking about this today, what happens to a family if the man was drafted or called for selective service? For example the husband is working and supporting his family and the wife is not working. He's the only supporter. Does the US government pays the family money? Like to cover their bills and living expenses?

Do you mean is the soldier paid? The answer is yes. Whether or not it will be enough is another matter.

A draft is not at all likely, though.

No I mean for his family, let's say he was working and supporting his family and paying the bills and covering the living expenses, then he got called for selective service, draft. What happens to his family? They have no income anymore.

Well, he'd get paid to be a soldier. I'm failing to see how your question wasn't answered the first time.

The effect of a man’s marital status on his draft priority was further modified by President Johnson’s Executive Order 11241 in 1965. It provided that men who married after August 26, 1965, and had no children, were again considered the same as single men in Class 1-A with regard to the order of call. However, childless men married prior to that date remained in the fourth order of call in Class 1-A in accordance with the "Kennedy husband" rule. They could be drafted only after all delinquents, volunteers, and single and newly married men (19-26, oldest first) in Class 1-A were selected for induction. President Johnson did not change eligibility for the 3-A classification, which still applied to fathers and to men who proved hardship to dependents.

The man will probably not get the first cut for the draft if he has child / children.

If he's making for example $35 an hour in his regular job, and managing to support his family and pay his mortgage, loans and living expenses, and then he was called or drafted, will he get paid the same from the army? My question is his family will be left in the middle of no where, with no income to pay any loans or mortgage, and will end up homeless for example?

This is a highly unlikely situation but no they won't likely meet his salary Edited by Transborderwife

So his family will be screwed?

If it reaches the point of drafting married men with children, the family has a lot more to worry about than just that. That would mean every man between 18 to 26 who is unmarried or married without children has already been drafted. That is a rather serious world war to reach that point.

Okay how the military works: A soldier, airman, marine, or seaman, all are paid a salary. This salary is based on their time in and rank. Also they are paid a housing allowance if they have a family. All family members also receive health and dental care free of charge. The amount of the housing allowance depends on the location. Does tha mean they may have to move? Yes. But in a time of war so involved that they are drafting people, I doubt moving is really a big deal. The US has not drafted in a long time. There are many in thr reserves and they would be called up first.

This isn't an issue unless you know something we dont?

The military looks after their own and dependents are considered part of that.

Also to add a deployed military person does not pay taxes. For his 6 months in Iraq my husband was not taxed on that income. He still recieved his BAH and his meals were provided overseas. He paid taxes on his regular income even though he was stationed in Guam.

Do they only draft or call people form selective service within the age 19 to 26?

What I know is that if the US army will be involved in the Syrian War by sending ground troops, like what happened in Vietnam or Iraq, then the army is going to call from the selective service and later maybe draft.

There is an order of being drafted as people have previously discussed.

If we did send ground troops it would super minimal. Honestly, why would we want to get involved with something that should really be taken care of regionally? The American people won't support another Iraq type situation, so there is no need to worry.

Where did you get this idea from?
