Actually I can name quite a few people who didn't resist and still ended up pushing up daisies. Tamir rice(wasn't enough to kill a 12 year old and not convict the cop but to bill the family 500 bucks for the ambulance ride, just wow). John Crawford(killed him then spent the rest of the day terrorizing his fiance since they didn't have any reason to kill him, they had to make up something.) I can keep going.

The simple point is that while black people can be killed for the slightest infractions, and in some cases shot for no reason at all, but white mass murderers are given every opportunity to be taken in custody without incident. Maybe there's an app for that. ..

Tamir Rice was waving what everybody thought was a real gun around. If he had it in his hand still when the cops came (the video sucks) he shouldn't be surprised to get shot, and that happens to white people as well. I have absolutely no sympathy for him. He acted stupidly, played a stupid game, got killed. In fact, I can find you plenty of stories of white people with bb guns shot by cops. And every time it happens no white people give a damn because the person was asking for it. Would those stories change your mind?

elitethuslib, I do think we need to consider registration of white males, but only once we can figure out a minimum statistical level of violence to require it; e.g. if 1/15 white men are prone to mass killings I think we should keep a very close eye on them. Not sure what the cut off is, though. It sounds like you're advocating keeping an extra eye on a particular race if they are found to be prone to violence. You should elaborate on exactly what constitutes this extra consideration, though.

Good luck!

i don't think he was surprised. dead kids are never surprised they're dead. please show me an example of a white boy playing in a park with a gun and getting murdered by police. make sure in your example (i'm sure there's a ton!) that the cops refuse to do anything to help the kid who shouldve known better as he lays dying..if anyone came to comfort the child - please make sure the cops pried that comfort away from the child.

only once we can figure out a minimum statistical level of violence to require it

oh that's easy, with the uber driver - no prior violence! minimum statisctical level of violence required? ZERO!

Well geeze, why don't you further demand in my comparison that the white kid with the gun was at the same park, also had the name Tamir Rice, and it was on the exact same day of the year with the exact same cops?

why? the exact same day and the exact same year is dumb and proves nothing..

but you just said that this black boy playing in the park with a toy gun should have known better, he had it coming. if you're correct - then you'll have plenty of acceptable examples of white children playing in parks with toy guns gunned down by cops to offer in comparison. i'll wait.

I can't find the stories because everything I google about BB guns and cops killing results in this @*#(ing story popping up!

Good luck!

i think the one thing this site 'bearing arms' gets right is not naming the killer. that's one of the very few things that can be done, i think. sucks that our media won't collectively give it a try.

Yeap. No need to kill yourself and others abs be elected for the hall of fame.

Um, I'm not sure where you grew up, but playing cops and robbers was a common thing when I was a kid. And you're kidding about playing a game and getting killed right? Because if we applied the same logic to the white men who walk around with automatic weapons in plain view, who sit there and actively challenge the police when questioned, why aren't they being shot? Tamir Rice was alone in the park, not a single person was in the video with him. He was playing by himself. They timed it, he was shot within 2 seconds of the cop exiting the car. White men have slaughtered scores of people with guns but are given a chance to surrender. And please share some of these stories where white people are shot carrying bb guns. Because I find it hard to believe when a dude can walk into a department store a month after Sandy Hook with the exact same weapon on his back and buy something and the cops didn't even show up.

It's funny how I always hear that white people go through these things, but we can never see it. 70% of the US population and no footage exists on the web. Nothing strange about that....

I think the issue is extremely complex and doesn't lend itself to absolutes. We just had a police shooting a Black man incident in Seattle. Felon. Not cooperative with the officers trying to arrest him. Not allowed to carry a gun but carrying one anyway.

Video of the attempt to arrest seems off a bit. He is not visible but the three officers approaching the car are.

Family and the NAACP upset that he got shot and that the news reports outlined his criminal background. I think it's relevant to the story.

I have not decided yet that the shooting was right or wrong but I think it leans towards justified. Not every shooting is simply police institutional racism. I think such incidents should stand on their own merits.

Not really. The problem is, no one wants to call it what it is. I'll elaborate using you as an example:

I know for a fact you have a open mind and you aren't a racist individual but the way this country operates is geared towards making all black victims out to be guilty of their own demise. Ever notice how black people's past are ALWAYS relevant to the story even if what they're doing at the time has nothing to do with it? Remember how Eric Gardner's selling untaxed cigs made his death acceptable? Every black person who's been killed or brutalized has one of two things to contend with. If they've committed any kind of infraction in their lives, it's automatically justified, regardless if they're not doing anything wrong at the time(TM was walking home from the store, but by golly he was going to do something I'm sure since he was suspended from school, but GZ had a history of domestic abuse and violence even towards the police and continues to have run ins with the law to this day, yet he gets the benefit of the doubt every time). If they're innocent of any crime whatsoever, then it becomes well, black people commit more crime so you have to take it on the chin.

This is why they always make a point to say what your past is if you're black. They're trying to remove any doubt in your mind that they didn't deserve what happened to them. John Crawford is probably the worse example of this. That's why they spent 93 minutes grilling his girlfriend. He hadn't committed a crime, nor did he have a criminal record, but they had to find something in order to justify his shooting. They tore her apart on video, and then blamed his death on himself, even though he hadn't done a single thing wrong.

I've been very frustrated at the lack of an adversarial press and the police..

Press to Police: "You have the man in Custody, can you tell us the reason he committed these acts?"

Police: "We have not determined motive as of yet, when we questioned him about the reason he committed these acts he answered very stoically"

Press: "Thank you"

Well what did he stoically say? How is THAT an acceptable answer? You questioned the man for 11 hours and seriously did not spend at least 50% of the time on WHY he did it? Why did the reporter not ask any of these questions when they got that stupid deflecting answer?

Here is the most detailed thing the police have said about motive: "My best sense is that it was somebody who was having an issue at the time and for whatever reason they decided to do what they did," Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard

questioned the man for 11 hours

Could have ended it in 11 seconds by saying "I have nothing to say without my attorney present."

On the lighter side:

A weary, sweating policeman emerged from an inner room of the station. "Well, did you give that thug the third degree?" asked the captain. "Yeah. Six of us kept screaming and shouting and badgering him with questions for over four hours," was the tired reply. "And what did you get out of him?" asked the captain eagerly. "Nothing," said the policeman disgustedly. "All he did was doze off and from time to time murmur, 'Yes, dear. You're right, dear.'"

That would have been an acceptable answer from the police "He chose to not speak to us on advice of his attorney so we do not have answer's regarding motive at this time" but what they said was that they questioned him for a long period of time and that he was a tad stoic in his responses.

I was getting de-ja-vu listening to the report remembering back to when we were preparing to do massive layoffs at work and I was told to select five people from my team to let go, later in the week there was an all-company meeting and someone asked the CEO "Are there layoffs coming?" and the answer was "Look, there are no layoff plans on my desk." ... Well true enough, they were in the drawer :)
