Understand very clearly, the illegal alien problem is a lose lose situation for the US government. There is no simple, quick fix and very importantly 'cheap' way to get rid of it today and equally into the future.

Will this amnesty fail again in terms of it being some kind of magic pill to prevent any further illegal immigration? I am sure it will. Will magically being able to identify all illegal aliens and somehow, either by force or 'attrition' send them 'home' somehow prevent future illegal immigration? Erm, you know what? No, it wont and no US goverment is going to be seen to support any policy that doesn't at least pay lip service to humanitarian ethics.

There are some strategies that will help to reduce the burden of illegal aliens but there isn't one strategy that will illiminate it...unless anyone is proposing sending the US into space?

It's not the kind of problem that even with the best will in the world has a quick fix.

sounds like a defeatist attitude to me.

The US could probably manage to extract a fair number of illegal aliens if its citizens were prepared to dig deeply into their pockets to pay to identify and deport them. However, even if one were to do that, it wouldn't stop people continuing to try to get to the US and I am not sure how much anyone is prepared to pay to 'ensure' the US isn't 'pollluted' by illegal aliens. I suspect the US administration has a fair idea though.

We know what has happened to defeatist societies throughout history. Thay gave up and withered away. Anything worthy is worth fighting for, and our autonomy as a nation is worthy, and wasting our tax dollars to appease any corrupt nation that exports its poverty over our borders is worth fighting against.

Amnesty is the *only* solution because the government does not have the resources

to deport the 8 to 20 million illegal aliens who are present in the U.S. today.

The right way to do it is to 1) secure the borders, 2) legalise the people who are already here.

As usual, they are going to skip (the more difficult) part (1) and go straight to part 2).

nor do they have the will to do so. Many USCs (read: business) benefit from undocumented workers.

You should run for president, you have the 'strong goverment' sound bite down pat.

I don't think America is ready for a Muslim president with Moroccan ties.

I remember when they weren't ready for a Catholic, a divorced man, or an actor to be president. Now, there's a Mormon, a woman, and a black man running for president. A Jew ran for vice-present and almost won. All of those were no nos at one time, too.

You prefer weak government? Read the US Constitution. One of its primary enumerated rights is to protect the borders and sovereignty of this nation. How many more of your Constitutional rights do you want to give away? How about free speech?

Some day perhaps, but not just yet.

I don't buy the so-called "fact" that we can't remove them. Hell, we don't even know how many there are, so saying there's no other solution but to be fcuked over by them every decade or so is #######. If you can drop a dime on them, law enforcement should be obligated to treat illegal immigration like any crime. Out you go, buh bye! We used to do it, we can again.

How well I know. I used to drive to and from work between Houston to Corpus Christi for my 7 day offshore shift every week up and down Texas Highway 59 (the road to Mexico) before the 1986 amnesty. The INS (old Immigration and Naturalization Service) buses ran constantly full going south and empty going north on 59 week in and week out. Those were the days my friends, I wished they didn't end! I saw it with my own eyes.

Before 1986 the USA never forgave immigration violations...and now we can see the result of the 1986 amnesty insanity with the mess we have today.

Kennedy was up to his neck in the 1986 fiasco and he is at it again today. That idiot is a menace to society and has been for years. Bush just added frosting to the cake with his huge addition to the ongoing lunacy.

You don't stop illegal immigration by rewarding and embracing it.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

The government doesn't have to pay to identify and deport them. All the government has to do is identify the companies employing them and start putting the owners in prison or slapping them with some hefty fines.

So, your theory for why the current goverment doesn't impliment this simple strategy is?

Anyway, that simply wouldn't satisfy those who believe that illegal immigrants are the devil incarnate. They want their pound of flesh and by gum they're going to have it.

You prefer weak government? Read the US Constitution. One of its primary enumerated rights is to protect the borders and sovereignty of this nation. How many more of your Constitutional rights do you want to give away? How about free speech?

Your words are full of sound and fury, but they signify nothing.
