I am sure Bush and the GOP leadership are going to be delighted with this brilliant new strategy to solve this problem. The 'starve them to death' solution. That's going to fly...

Economically, amnesty is the cheapest way to go. Of course, if you want to have your taxes increased to get them all kicked out...

That's #######. The cheapest way is to cut off their income so they either starve to death or go back home. I will never support ANY plan that rewards those that came here illegally.

man, you are all heart..."starve them to death..."..

the stomach is a powerful motivator :D

Is it really? They pay little to no taxes, get free medical care, welfare and undergo no background checks. The money/life saved from crimes they commit alone would be worth the exit price.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senator Barack Obama
Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

It is called "attrition through enforcement". Once they fully understand that they can no longer work, thrive, survive, and live illegally in the USA with the reward of amnesty to lock in all their illegally ill gotten gains...they will go home (where ever that is). They came here from somewhere else and they can go somewhere else...but they won't find it very easy to stay here. They are the responsibility of the government they are citizens of. Their US born children are the responsibility of their parents and should not be a loophole for residency for their illegal parents. They can return if they so wish when they are adults. Birthright citizenship should have been eliminated in the USA long ago as it already has in the E.U.

Mass roundups and deportations are unnecessary. A vast majority will leave when the gravy train is over. No amnesty...no incentive to stay.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

The last several empty-headed amnesties solved all the the problems and lowered our taxes, didn't they? I, too, will never support amnesty for illegals. Bad amnesty policies have done nothing to promote cohesion or the rule of law. Now we're having to press 2 for English, my kids are calling me to ask how to ask say something in Spanish to get service at some of the stores they patronize, and more and more jobs require Spanish speakers. No damn good came out of any amnesty to reward criminality, it doesn't make me feel good about my government screwing me over for doing things legally while giving the country away to illegals with my tax dollars.

Ah, the beloved us and them mentality, I love it.

It's amazing though that these wonderfully straightforward policies aren't adopted by any administration. Hmm, I wonder why not?

Amnesty is the *only* solution because the government does not have the resources

to deport the 8 to 20 million illegal aliens who are present in the U.S. today.

The right way to do it is to 1) secure the borders, 2) legalise the people who are already here.

As usual, they are going to skip (the more difficult) part (1) and go straight to part 2).

Understand very clearly, the illegal alien problem is a lose lose situation for the US government. There is no simple, quick fix and very importantly 'cheap' way to get rid of it today and equally into the future.

Will this amnesty fail again in terms of it being some kind of magic pill to prevent any further illegal immigration? I am sure it will. Will magically being able to identify all illegal aliens and somehow, either by force or 'attrition' send them 'home' somehow prevent future illegal immigration? Erm, you know what? No, it wont and no US goverment is going to be seen to support any policy that doesn't at least pay lip service to humanitarian ethics.

There are some strategies that will help to reduce the burden of illegal aliens but there isn't one strategy that will illiminate it...unless anyone is proposing sending the US into space?

It's not the kind of problem that even with the best will in the world has a quick fix.

I don't buy the so-called "fact" that we can't remove them. Hell, we don't even know how many there are, so saying there's no other solution but to be fcuked over by them every decade or so is #######. If you can drop a dime on them, law enforcement should be obligated to treat illegal immigration like any crime. Out you go, buh bye! We used to do it, we can again.
