Honestly I bet car sales people will be a thing of the past in 10 years.

They should be. They serve little purpose. Look at Tesla. I mean, I have a complete man crush on Elon Musk because he is one of this generation's bright minds, an absolute bad ###, completely showing up massive companies that have been at things a long time (whether with Tesla or Space X).

Where was I going...yes, Tesla is direct to consumer. They have car salesmen but the whole thing is far more fluid.

My last two cars I bought without even test driving them. I knew what I wanted and dealt on price. The only purpose the car salesman served was to waste time as we went back and forth and negotiated an extremely good-to-me price with him as middle man to his finance manager. I often know more about a given car than the people selling it. I know this because they regularly don't know basic facts about the cars that are even in the brochure. IMO if you enter a dealership and need somebody to sell you a car, you should leave until you know what you want. I have a co-worker who deliberately drives cars for a long time not for financial reasons but because he hates the soreness in his behind every time he goes to a dealership.

I'm sure Trump will send those manufacturing jobs to China and the plant will be built by illegals. Capitalism at it's best.

One of the last things that can be said about Trump, is that he's a capitalist. He's an opportunist, that's it.

Another solution is to heavily tax automation and then redistribute to people who lose their jobs due to automation.

Like Umka pointed out earlier. How many real people jobs can companies replace with robots and put their paying customers out of work without shrinking their customer base and hurting their profits? My guess would be, not too many.

Two points that I think have alot to do with one another. If most people are out of work, then they won't be able to afford buying products. If they cannot afford buying products, prices will inevitably decline. If prices decline, those people might be able to afford it, provided that the government helped them. Would it be a good idea to have the government support such a large group of people? Well probably not. And if that didn't happen, then those companies would end up going out of business and the smart companies that actually thought about that beforehand(and there will be those) will stay in business and the world moves forward.

i think yall are barking up the wrong tree. retraining? manufacturing jobs? in the us?

Service based economy like no other.
