RENEWING PHILIPPINE PASSPORT WITHOUT FILING ROM

Hi guys!

Has anybody tried renewing their Philippine passport without filing a Report of Marriage (ROM) at the Philippine embassy? I heard filing an ROM can take up to 6 weeks and I need to renew my Philippine passport as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have tried this and if there were any problems. Thanks!

I don't know of anyone who has renewed their passport without reporting their marriage. Reporting your marriage appears to be a requirement for renewing your passport.

My wife reported our marriage, reacquired her Philippines citizenship, and applied for a new Philippines passport all on the same day. She received her new passport about five weeks later.

If you simply report your marriage and renew your passport at the same time, I don't know how long it would take to receive your renewed passport.

Thank for the answer! Five weeks is pretty quick for all of that!

Now I'm confused though: I called the Philippine Embassy (Washinton DC) and the woman said they can only begin the passport renewal process (which takes 8-10 weeks) AFTER my ROM has been filed and approved (takes 6-8 weeks)! So I did the math and got pretty worried as altogether there doesn't seem to be enough time before I my travel plans. I initially thought that they'd process both ROM and passport renewal simultaneously (as I suppose that's what happened to your wife's case) but I guess I'll never really know how they do it!

I think they process everything at the same time. At least, that's what they did in our case. I'm guessing that the tier-one woman who answered the phone at the embassy was not correct.

No issue renewing in your maiden name, being you have not completed ROM. No delay for that.

We did both at the same time during an outreach event. I would almost think you could do both at the consulate at the same time without delay also, then you can get your passport in your married name. ;)

You shouldn't have any problems renewing as long as you continue to use your maiden name.

Renewing it using my maiden name might be the way to go--- my only concern is that everything else I have (greencard, SSN, etc) are in my married name. Wondering if this could be a problem when re-entering the US?

Just bring your marriage cert with you. Shouldn't have any problems with re-entry either.

We did our ROM through PE Wash DC and YES they require that the ROM is completed first and then the passport renewal. PE Wash DC will not budge on this as I have tried.

You can travel with all your documents in your new married name and your passport in your maiden name. You just need to bring along a copy of your marriage certificate. No worries!!

What and how you're going to be allowed to is going to depend on the consulate you have to go to, and who you talk to. They operate much like the same offices in the Philippines operate. Each is its own fiefdom, and each worker has their own idea of how you should do it. Mostly its fairly painless other than not getting clear answers, or having the answer change depending on who your talk to.

Phil Embassy in Wash DC will not renew a passport without the ROM completed. They do not budge. I am aware that other Consulate ie Los Angeles will do both at the same time but no no no, Wash DC will not.

And, more frustratingly so, is that there doesn't seem to be any logic whatsoever in the answers.
