The move date will depend on when the CF gives my husband his " official release" date.

If he were releasing normally it would require just his 30 days notice. However ( and there's always a however in our story) he has been pre-approved for a medical release. If you're not familiar with the terms of a medical release it goes pretty much like this.......he will get his regular retirement pension PLUS an additional 2 yr SISIP benefit that will bring his pension to 75% of his current salary, as well as, they(SISIP) will pay for retraining him for 2 years and I believe he is eligible for extended medical coverage during that time. A pretty good deal if you can get it I think. The glitch comes in waiting for Ottawa to decide what his official medical release date will be. Once that date is given... say its June 1......he can still give his 30 days notice, release voluntarily, receive his regular pension and then his medical benefits kick in on that official date. If he releases before the official date is given , then he forfeits his medical benefits.

Anyway .......nothing is ever simple..........but on an good note I was SMOKIN on rollin up the rim last week in Barrie. :)

Finally!

Medical releases can be a pain!! SISIP is great, wish I would have kept it when I got out just for personal insurance. The rates can't be beat!!! You stated that he may get SISIP payments for 2 yrs, etc, I would highly recommend he keep enrolled in it after that as well. I know when one gets out on a "normal" release they have up to a certain amount of time to stay enrolled in SISIP.

As well the militart wil pay for continuing education, BUT ensure he goes to the PSO office and fill out a education plan!! One has to do that prior to releasing!! I was told that i did not have to, BUT when it came time to submit my receipts for reimbursement, they asked where my education plan was!!! Since I did not do it, no $$ for education!! Oh well. As well, they have these seminars called SCAN, which I highly recommend he attend. All helps with retirement, and they cover those topics as well as others. Cheers

you did it Riblet , you pushed it over the top , thanks :)

and fer surely ......it is about EFFIN TIME! 6 months and 1 day after Montreal received the file.

Flames......he's done the SCAN and as far as his education plan, the SISIP office wont even dicuss it as an option until he has a guarantee from Ottawa with a release date. In fact they wont even say if they will approve his education in the states. He has a case worker guiding him through all the steps for his release and she's been fabulous but even her hands are tied as far as exactly what education benefits he will be entitled to and where. You know the military......the person you need to see is always either on leave, off sick, on exercise or deployed and their replacement is out of the office.....but leave a message and they'll get back to ya. Oh and you have to make an appointment to make an appointment....

...he made an appointment with the Base Surgeon 2 weeks ago to inquire about the status of his file ( again), when he made the appt he said what it was for......he gets there and the BS says he'll make a call to Ottawa and ask what the holdup is, so make another appt to find out what they said. Like he couldnt have done that before the appt. I walk around with this ####### look on my face most of the time when hubby tells me this stuff.

anywho........then end is near.......no more CF no more US Consulate Montreal...unless we decide to do his CR-1 there, we are yet to decide. Gotta get the bitter taste from this leg out of our mouths first. We are leaning that way tho.
