Administrative processing. What does it mean?

So, I had my interview, last week on wednesday. My status change on friday for administrative processing. I don't understand. They told me after the interview tha my visa had been approved and that I would get it in 2 weeks or less.

So, what's going on? Is the administrative processing just normal?

There are 2 types of administrative processing (AP). The first type, which you are likely in, is where they are actually printing your visa foil and inserting it into your passport. This can last from a few hours to a few days. The second type is for security checks etc and can be quite lengthy.

Try checking your status at the end of today to see if you are still in AP or if it says issued.

Yep, everyone undergoes AP.

Just more background checks, comparison to terrorist lists, ensuring all library books have been returned....that kind of stuff.

I called at the embassy earlier and the lady told me that they didn't have took a decision yet, but it was perfectly normal. I'm just really sad. Why they told me "in 2 weeks or less" and now they tell me 1 week or 2 months.

I'm really depressed about it. I thought it was almost over.

AP for security checks is very common for MENA countries, due to recent terror attacks and subsequent policy changes and new laws. For some reason, AP for security checks also seem to be very common in Canada lately?!?! If you search VJ or look in the Canadian thread, you can see loads of fellow Canadians going through the same thing as you. I'm afraid it's just a matter of waiting. :(

Hi F-Aziza:

Please what number did you use to contact the embassy?, they say to contact them by email only. I've been waiting for 9 months!! I'm really happy your status changed to final processing.

It's the number you can find on their website! Just go on the page when you can look at your status and if you scroll down, there's a section named "contacting us". I contacted them and the lady was really nice to me and really supportive. Seriously, all people I talked to from this embassy were really nice people. Maybe there's a document missing or something else you missed. Calling them might be the best way to know for sure and quick. And as I said, they're really nice people. They won't yell at you because you called!

Good luck!

They tell you 2 months so you will not call them everyday. That is typical for the government otherwise they will never get any work done because always answering calls.

Don't worry it bill be soon maybe even by end of this week hang in there.

Canada is not a MENA country. Every applicant from every country goes through AP
