Hi guys,

Our interview is scheduled on March 1st and I'm very nervous.
I just wanted to ask for some tips on what you guys brought to your interview. Also; how long did it take and how was the over all experience for you? Did you get interviewed separately?

It says to bring a bunch of things UNLESS already submitted. I did submit all these things along the process, like the medical exam, and just want to make sure I don't have to do these things again?

Basically all I need is my passport, my work permit, more proof of relationship and both our birth certificates, right?

aaahhh! Last step!!1

03/02/2015: filed I-129F at the USCIS Texas

03/13/2015: received confirmation (Form I-797), file will now get routed to the USCIS California Service Center for processing. We wait :)

First off- don't be too nervous!! You've made it to this step and are so close to having a couple year break from immigration papers..yay!

Our interview was about an hour and a half drive away. Because of this I brought everything. I mean EVERYTHING haha. I had a copy of our I-129F petition, every notice we have ever received and then a copy of the AOS/EAD/AP package as well. I used two accordion files. The first had what I just listed and the second was all full of evidence of our bonafide marriage. I would take as much as you can. It is way better to have too much and just take it back home than not have what is needed by the immigration officer. We brought my husband's (the US citizen) birth certificate and it wasn't asked for at all but I think they might have been an oversight.

We left early to find parking etc and to go through security in the building. Our interview lasted 6 minutes if that! The immigration officer was very nice and it was a casual conversation.

We were interviewed together. At the start we were both sworn in to confirm all our answers were the truth. After that it was her asking questions about how we met, our engagement, our wedding and about my husband's work (he works out of state and away from our home base). I found it a bit awkward as she asked the questions to both of us but we didn't know who should answer so we just ended up taking turns and adding information if one of us forgot it in the original answer.

Then she asked me the questions in the I-485 about being arrested, terrorism, etc. After that she asked if we had evidence of our marriage and comingling.

From what I remember we provided: bank statements showing that both names are on the account, our lease in both names, copies of our auto and home insurance policies in both names, utility bills in joint names, most recent Verizon printout showing how often we talk to each other (43 pages!), pictures from various moments in our relationship (I just printed these at Walmart and wrote the month and year and location on the back in pen) and also a copy of our wedding invitation and thank you cards.

To the interview I wore a sweater dress with tights and black boots and my winter jacket as it was a cold day. My husband wore dress pants and a nice sweater. I would have called our attire dress casual, just like you are going to a job interview.

Good luck! If you have anymore questions let me know.

Mrslibers gave a very good response, so I won't duplicate the thoughts, but only echo them. As they did we brought a copy of everything back to the K1 submission. Our interview lasted about 20 minutes, but was very nice with a lot of small talk with the IO. I am glad we brought the K1 package as we were asked for a copy of my wife's divorce decree which we had in that file.

Relax and Good Luck!

Hi Nele,

I just had my interview today in Chicago. It was a very good and fast experience. Like you, I wasn't exactly sure what to bring and like most I over compensated, but better safe than sorry right.

My interviewer asked for less then 30% of what I brought! We were in the room together with our 11 month old. What was asked for: Both IDs (drivers license) both passports, His birth certificate, my Naturalization certificate ( I was born in Nigerian and became a naturalized US citizen via my mum as a pre-teen), our child's birth certificate and he asked if I was still employed, I offered my last two pay stubs as proof (he didn't actually request these but I offered and he added them to the file). In terms of documentation, the photocopies of all these were on file but he just wanted to see the originals.

I had so much other information included lots of evidence of a viable relationship but nothing else was asked for. In terms of interview questions, he asked us how and where we met, where were were married and if our child was both of our biological child. Honestly I think that was it in terms of questioning. We have a cute meeting story which entertained him :)

He closed with "this should be enough to prove your case, you should get the card within the next month" and he gave us instructions of how to take of the conditions after two years.

All in all it was a great experience.

We give thanks to God!!

Good luck!!
