Hi,

Im a bit confused now. It seems that I am not yet done with all the stress of this journey. I finished my DOT at Saint Lukes for 6 months last October and repeated my medical on Nov and it was all good. I had my interview at the embassy and was approved. I arrived here in the US last week and my port of entry is Chicago. The woman who handled my case at the Immi section was new and when she saw my packet, having the medical class b1. She called her supervisor bcoz she said it was her 1st time and the supervisor just told her to contact CDC which she did. Cdc officer came and checked my packet. She told me the medical result of the possible TB and I had to do a follow up check up at the state health dept. I was explaining to her that I already did the treatment but she was in a hurry to leave. She handed me my medical papers from saint lukes and another paper she gave where the state health dept address is. I have a friend who did dot as well and didnt encounter this. I know when you had sputum test at st lukes for 2 months and turn out negative, u will still have to do a follow up check up here. I havent heard of someone who actually finished the tb treatment already at slec have to do the follow up again. Its just stressful to think abt it since we live abt 3 hours drive to the state health dept. Any encounter? Thanks.

It's not unusual to have a follow-up visit to your county health center. Maybe the following will help.

Yhis should be moved to the Philippine sub forum you'll get answers specific to SLEC and TB requirements.

Yeah for those who did the 2 months sputum it is usual to have a follow up check but for those who finised the 2 months sputum and actually did the tb treatment at sleac for 6 months that am not sure :( I finished the treatment already and undergone the stressful path for more than 8months and had 3 sputum in between all turned up negative. I thought when you are declared cured as per treatment is then no need to stress urself for another medical here in the us.

It is totally normal after DOT to complete a follow up once in the USA, your friend may of slipped through the cracks or maybe got notice in the mail.

My stepdaughter came in as B1 also. Nothing at all said at ORD POE and was surprised to get a call several weeks later from county board of health. Took about 2 months and yet additional expense and aggravation to prove that she was TB free and SLEC testing was a false positive.

4 yo girl didn't like it either. But now she has a document that she needs to keep forever that indicates that future skin tests may show positive but she is not a carrier.

Always something else to stumble across.

Yeah stress after another lol. I just dont get it why you have to do another follow up to see whether you got it or not where in fact you undergone the treatment already and was cured as per their guidelines. My sputum culture came positive before the 2nd month so I had to do the the 6month treatment. Been to 3 sputum tests within those months and all came negative. Repeated the medical as per their guidelines and now have to do another follow up and sputum test based on some reading. I havent called then yet. I dont know whether Ill give them a call ir wait for them to call us for the appointment. Sigh!

FWIW county health agent here said the reason for the follow ups is that the level of acceptable 'freeness' of TB in the Philippines (as well as other countries) is less than in the US.

Probably the standard explanation, not based on fact.
