Hi,

Is there anyone who is a Green Card holder and a Ukrainian citizen who recently traveled to Ukraine and had a layover in Paris?

I am wondering, Do they need a transit visa in Paris? (For a Ukrainian citizen and green card holder)

Thank you!

So I found this info..

http://www.diplomatie.gouv.fr/en/coming-to-france/getting-a-visa/article/what-type-of-visa-do-i-need-to

I think the short version is no as long as you STAY in the airport. However a Schengen visa is not that hard to get. My wife has had 3 of them over the last 3 or 4 years.

My wife has flown through Paris several times with just a Ukrainian passport and had no issues. She didn't need any kind of a transit visa if just connecting through to another country.

I've traveled through Paris recently. Well, I don't think I will take this airport again :( but, anyway, as posted above you don't need any transit visa if you are not going to leave the airport.

If your return flight is also through Paris, she should keep her green card along with the passport - they will definitely ask for this before boarding.

Good luck!!!

That's good news. Thank you!

If you are not leaving the airport - you do NOT need any visa.

(leaving an airport is considered entering the country. Since you are staying in the airport - you are still in international area)

Some countries do require a transit visa even if you are not leaving the International section of the airport so i thought i would ask. Thanks!

This is Airport is not my first choice for sure but for some reason our regular layover in Amsterdam is not flying on the dates we want to go.

France has not been too much of a problem, although we had to go through additional security checks. I guess it is just the times. Something nice to know when flying to Ukraine, UIA has a direct flight to Kyiv from NY. A ticket for this flight is pocket change. Check flying direct from Portland to NY to Kyiv. The UIA flight does not fly everyday, but may fit your schedule :)

Just know that UIA is a pretty much no-frills airline and you will get the most barebones of service. Oldish planes, no individual TV screens, etc. Still a lot better than the old AeroSvit used to be, at least UIA did not give me the cold portion of my meal frozen solid like AeroSvit did. On the plus side, they will allow 2 suitcases per person as opposed to 1 suitcase that most European airlines will allow.

UIA uses some of the same planes that AeroSvit used to. As you said the service is barebones.

The only reason I flew it is because of 2 suitcases and cheapest price (during the Holidays). During other times - you can find much cheaper prices from other European airlines, with much better service.

+1.

And I would have added UIA is also "famous" for flights delays. Not a big deal if you have a non-stop flight.. Well, depends on how long is that delay, of course.. But it comes to a real mess, if you have more than one connection...
