IR-1 Visa how to get the ball rolling with job opportunities before arrival

Is there anything I can do to speed things up in my job hunt for Chicago before I arrive, I've asked for my interview date but not heard back yet. Would getting in touch with recruiters be a waste of time? I'd there anything I can apply for itin number? That will help me set up a job before I get there?

Any tips would be much appreciated!

hi

nope, you won't have an itin number, you will get a social security number and card,

an itin is to file taxes, but not to work

you will need your temporary i551 stamp and social security number to work

do you have a resume? you can work on a resume to have when you apply for jobs

Get your resume in order. They are different than CVs. There's plenty of websites and many suggestions so look at a lot of websites before taking the first idea that pops up.

You can also apply for jobs or reach out to employers stating your anticipated availability. You can even interview or accept a job offer. You just can't start the job until you get that I-551 stamp in your passport at POE. And the employer will want your SSN for reporting your wages.

Thanks guys, quick follow up question, when will I recieve my SSN? I had to give a US address to mail it to but no time line?

Sometimes that never happens, despite your request on the form. Go to a Social Security office in person the week you arrive. You could have the card in a week.
