FACT CHECK

The failed "Experiment" and eventual revolt from "Socialism" had to with rules imposed by their landlord back in England who wanted their money back from investing in the colony.

Open field farming was not some kind of communism. All the villagers were tenants of the landlord.

Making Haste from Babylon: The Mayflower Pilgrims and Their World: A New History

LOL at what part? The fact that they settled illegally?

I stand corrected. It was the contract the Puritans signed with the Virginia Company that dictated Socialism. Regardless, it still didn't work.

I'm sure if Steven was still here he could spin a once a month underwear change into a way to save the planet.

A commercial contract dictated socialism? The money guys in England just wanted their profits as soon as possible. That sounds more like a failed experiment in how to not get a return on your investment.

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

Off The Grid News

Historians say that the settlers in Plymouth, and their supporters in England, did indeed agree to hold their property in common — William Bradford, the governor, referred to it in his writings as the “common course.” But the plan was in the interest of realizing a profit sooner, and was only intended for the short term; historians say the Pilgrims were more like shareholders in an early corporation than subjects of socialism.

“It was directed ultimately to private profit,” said Richard Pickering, a historian of early America and the deputy director of Plimoth Plantation, a museum devoted to keeping the Pilgrims’ story alive.

The arrangement did not produce famine. If it had, Bradford would not have declared the three days of sport and feasting in 1621 that became known as the first Thanksgiving. “The celebration would never have happened if the harvest was going to be less than enough to get them by,” Mr. Pickering said. “They would have saved it and rationed it to get by.”

The competing versions of the story note Bradford’s writings about “confusion and discontent” and accusations of “laziness” among the colonists. But Mr. Pickering said this grumbling had more to do with the fact that the Plymouth colony was bringing together settlers from all over England, at a time when most people never moved more than 10 miles from home. They spoke different dialects and had different methods of farming, and looked upon each other with great wariness.

“One man’s laziness is another man’s industry, based on the agricultural methods they’ve learned as young people,” he said.

Bradford did get rid of the common course — but it was in 1623, after the first Thanksgiving, and not because the system wasn’t working. The Pilgrims just didn’t like it. In the accounts of colonists, Mr. Pickering said, “there was griping and groaning.”

Granted it's from a swinish liberal rag without nearly as much gravitas as Off The Grid News, and that Pickering sounds like a stooge, but whatever.

change is not always good. unless it's one's underwear that is being changed.

We should do it at least once daily, in case we're involved in an accident.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The entire bush family should be banned from politics until they are willing to publicly admit that Dubya is a criminal.

Anyway, as far as this election is concerned it's more apparent every day that Sanders has no future, so Clinton will be the nominee. Sanders' momentum is done and Clinton is the golden child, so she will be the nominee. It is finished for Sanders now.

As for Republicans, Cruz' campaign is over. Wind also out of his sails, put a cork in him.

So, we have Trump vs Hillary, with a mild chance that Rubio gains ground in the next 1-2 months.

If we have Trump vs Hillary the country loses either way.

I'm hoping Rubio can make ground. He is malleable and fairly spineless, but it could be worse. He seems a palatable candidate, and if he's smart enough to get a good VP that can pull moderates (a woman wouldn't hurt), then he could have a real shot. He also is polling well against clinton--better than trump, according to RCP.

Good luck!
