Visiting home with advanced parole

Hey everybody,

I apologize in advance if this isn't the correct spot for this inquiry, it's been a while since I have posted.

I came to the US in July with a K1 visa, got married and now have my work authorization and advanced parole card. I'm now just waiting for whether or not I need an interview so I can get my green card.

Anyway, I guess my real question is has anybody traveled to their home countries and faced any issues coming back to the states? I know it's really not ideal to travel with your advanced parole and not your green card, because at least the green card is more concrete. It's just that I am hoping to be able to go visit my family around the end of July-early August and am worried that even though it will have been almost a year, I won't have my green card.

I know it's advised to only use the advanced parole card if something has happened in your family, but I'm just curious if anybody has had any issue visiting home just for "leisurely" reasons I suppose.

Hope that makes sense lol

Thanks in advance!

Danielle

News to me.

Where did you get that from?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I guess just from reading other people, and also when I got the card it says "this document doesn't guarantee entry" but then again nothing at the border is a guarantee

Quality over quantity.

Only USC's are guaranteed entry.

Many many years ago I remember a Lawyer on another board quoting the head of what was ICE saying that he could not understand why anybody would wish to give up being admitted for paroled.

But finding someone who in reality has had an issue will be a long task.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

That's interesting. Another thing we've read from other posts and whatnot is that even though the Canadian passport is in my maiden name, the EAD, AP, and GC will be in married name, so I've been advised to also carry a copy of our marriage certificate with me for all travel seeing there is a name discrepancy between all of those.

Sounds logical until you change your passport.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I used my AP twice, both for "leisurely" reasons. Once for a vacation to the Dominican Republic and once to go home to Canada to visit and get a new passport in my married name. Yes, you have to go to secondary and get a new stamp in your passport, but they were really nice about it and I had no issues whatsoever. If you have to fly just remember to book your ticket in your passport name and bring your marriage certificate. I'm glad I didn't wait for my green card because it took over 10 months. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! How hard was it to get your new passport in your married name? Is there ant special steps along the way?
