Hello,

My husband recently came down here on a K-3 Visa and we filed for the I-765 work authorization and just recently received a letter stating a time and date to go for the Biometrics appointment. Can anyone explain to me what happens after the appointment? Will he have his SSN and then be able to work? We need to get him working ASAP, so I'm just curious if anyone knows approximately how long this takes until he gets his ssn and can start work or just overall knowledge about this process. Any help is appreciated! Thank you

(This is only what happened to us, hopefully you'll get a few more responses along with this one) At the biometrics appointment your husband's fingerprint will be taken, he will sign a paper, & have his picture taken. He will NOT recieve his SS# or EAD the same day. They will mail you the EAD (check my signature for what our timeline was to recieve the EAD after the appointment), then you fill out a SS# form & take it to your local SS# office. Then they will mail you his SS# card.

I'm in the same position as you, my husband needs to be working ASAP but unfortunely we've just had to wait. He's been a good househusband in the meantime, washing the dishes & doing the laundry & making the bed & making me dinner after I get home from work.

Thank you so much!! That's so weird, our situations are almost exactly alike. My husband is canadian and we got married 12/28/04 and he just got down here(on a K-3 Visa) on Feb. 17th. So we've been apart almost all of our marriage. He cooks and cleans and stuff which helps. I'm having to work 2 jobs right now which is extremely hard because I have no time for my husband because by the time I get home I'm so tired and just want to go to bed. Anyway, when do we file for AOS? We still haven't gotten an approval notice on the I-130 yet (we filed it Aug 05). All this paperwork and immigrations stuff is so confusing!
