• He says he was eating in a Washington, DC McDonald's when he was approached by a group of teens who asked him if 'black lives matter'
• He says they later ambushed him, hit him in the head with a handgun, knocked him unconscious, and stole his wallet
• Marquez was hospitalized for several hours with injuries to his head
• A 2004 photograph of Marquez carrying a wounded comrade in Fallujah inspired the No Man Left Behind statues located at two corps bases

I hate to say it but the fact that he is a former Marine doesn't have much to do with it other than it gets some press. They didn't attack him because he's a leather neck. This type of thing happens far too often in too many cities to too many people.

I tend to agree with you. As veteran I think the Veteran card is way over played. The headline should have simply read, Man attacked in hate crime.

You see it all the time Vet evicted from home, Vet fired for this or that. Being a Vet does not give you exemption from paying you bills or following the rules at work.

I'm telling this to everybody because it's been happening a lot around here and across our country," Marquez told "Fox & Friends." "It was a hate crime. They targeted me because of my skin color. So, we're seeing a lot of these events of people being attacked because they're white. And I'm thinking we have to speak up more about this because it's just going to continue to happen."
