SSN Needed for Marriage !!!!!!!!

As I said above, no US state requires you to have a Social Security number before you can obtain a marriage licence.

It is required in Idaho , then I told them I am a foreign national then they told me to go to a Social Security office and secure a letter / affidavit attesting that I am not qualified to get one, just showed my passport. So they know the process and they gave me an affidavit and that is when I was allowed to get a marriage license.

We got our marriage license without fiancee's SSN. The funny thing is that the county's official website clearly states it is necessary.

At the courthouse, fiancee was made to sign an testament saying she's not eligible to obtain SSN-- which as a K-1, she is so eligible.

She didn't want to be dishonest and pointed out K-1s are eligible. The officer said "anyway go ahead and sign". That's how it went.

From what I read it seems that courthouses don't need K-1 holder's SSN in most cases.

I had to wait around 4 weeks for my SSN. I was already married but still, I had the same problem with the SSN office. Called them everyday and everyday they said they're waiting on USCIS to verify my status. Eventually I got them to make an inquiry about it, and a few days later, I got my SSN
