Hi everybody, I am in process of filing I-129F to bring my fiancé in Vietnam to US. I live in US and I don't have any close relative in Vietnam, so bring some of my family members to Vietnam to hold a engagement ceremony is troublesome. I wonder if a engagement party and engagement rings are necessary for filing I-128F, especially for Vietnamese fiance's. Please help me out. Appreciate very much for any help.

Vietnam has been a hard consulate to get thru historically. Speaking from our experience we had an engagement party with engagement rings with her family at her sisters house. We included all this with the petition. Others that have went thru will tell you they had no engagement party and made it thru with no problem. It will be up to you to convince the consulate in Vietnam of a true relationship. Preparation is key, research the Vietnam forum, prepare and take your best shot. It is not necessary to file the petition.

Evidence of the engagement party is expected in HCMC. If you haven't had one before filing bring photos/evidence to the interview. Rings aren't needed/expected.

Spend some time reading in the Vietnam regional forum to learn what's expected in HCMC. It's one of the more difficult places to secure a visa. You want to give evidence of your entire relationship from beginning to present. A timeline letter has been helpful for many. Front loading (sending much of the evidence with the petition) has been helpful too. This give the interviewing officer time to review all the evidence prior to the interview day.

Be well prepared and you will have a smoother time.
