the icing on the cake is that she is sending Lourdes to Cheltenham Ladies College

I have a friend who works on Top of the Pops who reported that Lourdes is a right little madam (when she was there for Madge's performance a few years back)

omg, how'd we miss THAT one?! I like that, a right little (or proper little) madam. The other thing that gave me a good laugh was when gossiping about someone, the DAH used "it" to describe a certain woman. As in, 'Doesn't it just think it's.. blah blah. It's such a good, subtle putdown...

My fave is 'cheeky monkey'... I have started to use that one myself. I have also caught myself thinking 'lazy git' when I see that someone has done something that they shouldn't have due to laziness. I like 'I can't be bothered', but I haven't used it myself. 'Sorted' is another one of my favorites that I will use now. My future father in law wanted Spence to see if I knew what 'forthnight' meant, of course I didn't... :) And while I now think that it is cute when he says 'cheers' instead of 'thank you', I will never say it... not sure why, it just doesn't seem right coming out of my southern mouth. But I've got a feeling that the most English thing I'm going to hear him say the most often once he is here is 'Babe, can you put the kettle on?' LOL

Did anyone hear Joss Stone's "american" accent at the Brit Awards?

I watched it on youtube but can't find it on there now, it was hilarious. Didn't help she told a joke which fell flat too.

"Open yer eyes, ya wee bloody dwarf!!" I was taken to a football game my first visit there, and there were some rather excited Scottish gentlemen behind us.

Things that have crept into my American vocabulary:

mank or manky

for fcuks sake

done and dusted

daft

Things I purposefully avoid saying as I sound like an idiot saying them with a Southern accent:

footie

tube

Well as a scouser I think this thread is 'proper boss like'

I think in Liverpool we have our own seperate language anyway so have to make a real effort to adapt and speak slower in the states!

When I get bladdered though I start to speak as if I had never left the place....

The word 'Alright' always seems to confuse the americans, we know its just a hello but alot of them seem to think it's a crazy question. Also when they ask me "Hi, how are you' I always reply 'sound mate' that also seems to get me a puzzled look.

And if one mor person asks if I'm Scottish, Irish, Martiian

I too am an Essex Girl (Collier Row, Romford) and my US husband laughs at some of my favourite little sayings below (with translations!):

"awright?" (hello)

"is he aving a giraffe?" (is that gentleman trying to be funny with that outrageous thing he is doing)

"you can stick that up yer bum" (I really am not happy with that suggestion)

"bow locks to that" (no im sorry i will not do that)

"it was proper nice" (it was really really lovely)

"muppet" (idiot)

"face like a bag o' spanners" (he/she was not aesthetically pleasing in my opinion)

"donut" (idiot but likeable)

and my daily one....

"wot babe?" (sorry darling could you repeat that please)

2 months for you both? Betcha can't wait! :D

Yah, I love Macys...That is where Chris and I are registered.

Nordstroms can be a little pricey but the quaility is fantastic.

That is typically where I order my suits and dresses for summer and for weddings etc.
