My wife's parents and sister who live in Serbia are planning on visiting us here in the US this coming August. They most likely will not have enough funds to cover expenses while visiting the United States. Can my wife sponsor her family on the application? Or will I need to be a co-sponsor as well? We both are working and can provide financial support while her relatives are here visiting.

no, there is no sponsorship for a visitor visa. They must apply and be approved on their own merits, and their merits alone. If they don;t have the funds for the trip they will be denied.

That isn't true as there is the ability for USC and AR to sponsor their visiting relatives. Please check out the below link. Hence I-134 form:

I 134 is non enforceable.

Not worth the paper it is printed on.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

A tourist visa can't be sponsored.

Read some of the posts from VJ member HFM181818 to get a better understanding of the visitor visa process. That member is a former consular officer.

My wife is here on a green card, I'm a USC. If we have a baby and would like her mom to visit for a few months - what type of Visa should we apply for? Her mom doesn't have a lot of money so it would be tough to show she would return since my wife's mom isn't working a full time job and she and my wife's dad are just supported by family as they're elderly. My wife's dad would not visit - so would that be evidence that she'll return? (since her husband of about 35 years will not be coming to the U.S.)?

Any advice on how to approach this? We could deposit some money - say $5000 - in a bank account for my wife's mom if that would make it work?

There is nothing that you can do to make it easier. Mother in law applies for the visitor visa on her own showing stronger ties to her home country than the US (daughter and new grandchild).

depositing money ten minutes before an interview is an ancient ploy, instantly recognized for what it is trying to show.....that supposedly the applicant has enough $$ to cover the trip, etc....but when I saw these feeble attempts to fool me, I merely asked the applicant (initially) one question..'where did all that money come from?'.....and if the applicant tried some silly lie, perhaps like, 'oh, I sold a car or a house or some land...."...I would then ask for the documents pertaining to that sale....odd no one could ever produce those documents (except for a few idiots who tried giving me the fake ones that they had bought an hour earlier!)....so please, COs have seen that 'strategy' before.....it doesn't work. It only makes things worse, not better.

She works part time, does not have much money, but can go on a multi month vacation?

Would your mother-in-law be coming to take care of the baby so that your wife can return to work?
