Sorry if this is not the right place to post this, but I would really appreciate some input. This is my first post.

I am absolutely livid. I will never use TurboTax again! I have always done my taxes by hand and mailed them in, but this year I bought the TurboTax software because I wanted my 2015 taxes processed faster so I could get the transcripts. I had to use the paid version because I work overseas and have a tax situation that the free version doesn't cover.

Anyway, I finished my taxes almost a month ago. TurboTax emailed me saying they were accepted by the IRS, and that I was finished. I assumed this meant I was good to go, but today I called the IRS to have my 2015 transcript faxed and the lady said there had been an error and my return is still being processed! She said the issue was resolved but that the transcript won't be ready for maybe another four weeks. I feel like TurboTax essentially lied to me.

My husband's interview is at the Seoul embassy on February 26. I know the I-864 instructions say I can use a photocopy of my 1040, but if my taxes are still being processed, will that even work?? Or will they just flat-out reject us/tell us to wait for it to be finished? Would they even have any way of knowing that the return was not officially finished? I am so worried now.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some insight.

From what I see this int a turbo tax issue. They did their job by helping you file your taxes and it was accepted by the IRS. If their was an error it may have been in the irs processing. You can use your 1040 copy but include all schedules and w2 1099 all schedules and supporting evidence must be included.

I want to use my 2015 taxes because my 2014 income wasn't sufficient. I was moving back and forth between Korea and the US between contracts that year.

It's just frustrating because when I did my taxes by hand in the past, I never made any mistakes and they were always processed pretty quickly. Then when I pay for software something goes wrong. I do not know what the error was but I just wish TurboTax would somehow notify people if their returns weren't really processed in the time their site says they will be.

I can give evidence of my Korean income but I do not get official W-2s since my employer is Korean, obviously. I hope they accept it.

print out everything you put in to turbotax, and you should be fine.

you mention an IRS form 1040, but that's not enough.

Yes, you can submit a copy of the form 1040 and all supporting schedules and documents. The transcript is preferred, but not required.

Thanks for the replies!

According to the embassy, the W-2 isn't required since, obviously, I don't get one in Korea. I emailed them a few times just to be sure and that was what they told me. I will submit the Korean version of my income/tax receipt type thing that shows my income for 2015. Several people who had their interviews at the Seoul embassy said that a 1040 without W-2s worked for them, so I hope I don't just get a crabby immigration officer or something!

My main worry, though, is that they will not accept my 1040 simply because the IRS hasn't finished processing my taxes yet...

P.S. Darnell, I found your topic earlier about how you got your transcripts by fax, which was a huge help! Before I read that I had no idea I could get them any other way than by mail. Thank you for posting that!
