I went back for my psychiatric evaluation yesterday, January 16th. (Day 1 here) As stated in my Day 1 post, I had to undergo said evaluation for Major Depressive Disorder and my history of self-harm.

I was asked to come at 8am. I came in at 7:30, told by the security guard to proceed to Room N, and then sent off to the cashier on the 15th floor to pay an extra fee of P1,058. I then handed my receipt to the 5th floor guard and was asked to take a seat until my name was called.

At 8:30 another guard escorted me to the 6th floor where the psychiatrist's office was. (Side story: It was pretty much a nonfunctioning floor so it was a bit eerie. ?)

I was expecting to do a Personality Evaluation Test, like I was told the previous day, but instead it was pretty much just like the initial consultation that you might have if you're seeing a new psychologist/psychiatrist for the first time. I was hoping that this was what was going to happen, because I felt like being able to narrate my mental health history was a much better way for their psychiatrist to make a better assessment. A structured evaluation test wasn't going to do that.

The consultation probably lasted about half an hour, but I think only because I talked A LOT. There was a lot to talk about. It is a 5-year history, after all, and I wanted him to know all the key points. I was expecting him to ask whether or not my fiancé knows about my depression and how he deals with it, but he didn't ask anything about him at all. (Yes, the fiancé knows and deals amazingly with it. I'm a lucky gal.)

The doctor was nice and he perfectly understood everything I said. He didn't show any concern over my condition, or show any indication that it might cause a problem with my visa application. It definitely bore weight that I have been in treatment since 2012, and have been seeing my current psychiatrist on a regular basis since 2013.

After telling me that he had everything he needed to know, he sent me off with a cheery, "Good luck! Good luck to you!"

I'm calling SLEC on Friday to check if the results are in, and if they are, I will probably be asked to come back for immunization sometime next week. I have been feeling really crummy, though, so I'm hoping to feel 100% by next week so I don't have to delay getting the immunization done.

Also, after a month and a half of waiting for March interview dates to open, I've finally been able to schedule mine today for March 28th, when the fiancé should be here. ? Whoop! It's all moving along, finally.

Thanks a million to all the VJ members who have reassured me and gave me advice regarding this clinical depression thing! You all are freaking angels.

Thanks for your follow-up post.

The only times I've heard about having to take a psych test is when the psych doctor has issues with a person's psych evaluation. Since you were not referred by the psych doctor for a psych test, then it's very good news.

Also, since the psych doctor didn't have any issues with your evaluation, the embassy won't have any issues either.

On a side note, your English is pretty freakin' good!

Thank you so much for this post!

I just had my medical exam yesterday and they told me the same thing. I had(/or may still have?) Clinical Depression and I've been on treatment for 2 years now. They told me that I have to undergo Personality Evaluation Test and since then, I have been freaking out! I'm just worried about the process and (of course) the results. My interview is on the 8th of September and they said that I have to return on the 1st for this test and possibly, the immunizations, while the results may be released on the 5th. The narrow gaps between these days just gives me so much anxiety. urgh!

But anyway, nice post! I feel so lucky stumbling upon this. I feel somehow relieved.

Hi! I want to ask if what you did is a PEPS? Or is it a different thing? Because my bro is given instruction about that peps. Thanks!
