Hi VJ!

My fiancee just had her interview and was approved for her K1 visa!! We are extremely excited but are not ready to get married until July 2016. Would it be possible for her to visit the United States in April 2016 on a touist visa and then go back to her home country and return in July 2016 on the K1 visa (which was approved February 2016) to get married?

please notice in the passport, when it's returned,

as

usually,

a tourist visa is cancelled when a K-1 visa foil is attached inside the passport.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

thank you guys, really appreciate it. i guess her next entry into USA will have to be on the K1 fiancee visa.

we are forced to wait until July 2016, when we are ready to marry.

She will have been told that on her interview date the visa is issued and will be valid for 90 days only. So, she will need to move over BEFORE July 2016, or you might be forced to start the whole process over again.....Something to SERIOUSLY look into.

When she gets her passport back, it will show a date of expiration for the visa.

my belief was that the K1 Visa was valid for 6 months from day of issuance....

6 months from the date of the medical :)

Everything crossed for a smooth and stress free journey

I just checked the wife's K1, Issue Date 30AUG2012, Expiration Date 27FEB2013 so it looks like she had 6 months to enter from issued date although she enter on September 1, 2012. At the bottom of the visa it says" K-1 PETITION EXPIRES ON DECEMBER 28, 2012" Worth doubling checking on this.

thank you khwaidee1

i will ask the embassy in thailand

Looked at the passport again. The POE stamp is faint. the entry date is stamped "SEP 02 2012", on the POE stamp it says class and K-1 was handwritten. Right below that it says "until" and the CBP wrote NOV 30, 2012 and I remember him telling us we must marry with 90 days which would be NOV 30, 2012. Good luck!

Try asking below in the Regional forum for Thailand.

My husband, then fiance, had his visa approved March 16, 2015. He entered the US June 4th, 2015 and we got married June 11th, 2015 adjusted without any problem (touch wood)

The 90 day window is from the point of entry in the US. It is correct that the visa is valid for 6 months, so she should enter before the visa expires, visa expiration is on the visa itself. For example for my hubby, the visa expiry date was sometime September 2015.

Maybe last week of June would be best for you guys so you have some time to get married. Why are you not ready to get married? I hope you're not trying to plan a wedding in 5 months, I did it, don't do it lol it's SUPER stressful.
