SSC application sent to department of homeland security?

Ok, I just came from SSA office and they told me that they sent my application to some government office - probably the department of homeland security and they are waiting for approval... and that it usually takes 45 days to get it back. Could someone tell me if this happened to them too, please? I start to be desperate with all this paperwork and I haven't even started yet. And with no SSN I even can't... thank you for your advice!

This probably happened because you went to the SSA office too soon after entering the US. If your information isn't in the system yet, they manually send a request to DHS to verify your information and this can take weeks to do.

I entered the States January 24th and went to the SS office on February 6th. I know that this website said to wait 2 weeks, so I did.

This is incorrect. The SAVE database has your information in it as soon as you get through the POE.

OP, the same thing happened to my fiance and I am currently extremely stressed out about it. Basically, the name my fiance had on his I-94 was cut off (he has 6 names, and his first of three middle names was cut off). I'm trying to contact the local SSA office to get the status, as it's coming on two weeks without any card. If that doesn't work, I'll go back in and speak to a supervisor.

Sorry, I applied Feb 6th, so it was two weeks after my entry..

You do not have to wait 2 weeks. You can go with a print out of your I-94 right after entry. You should apply in the name that appears on the K-1 visa and I-94 though.

You do not need an SSN to apply for AOS.

Thank you. Yes.. I applied with my new name.. I still kept my maiden name as my middle name, so they can see it's me, but I understand it'd be easier if I did't Well.. I guess now I just have to wait.. I don't know what else to do..

i suggest you go back tomorrow and apply in VISA name, showing the I-94 that you printed off from the online I-94 portal. Don't apply in married name, or you get this 'kiss of death' from SSA as they want DHS verification on you, and that takes up to 45 days, and you have no FEDERAL ID showing the married name, yet.

my how-to ssn topic mentions, later on, that a K-1 visa holder not need to wait two weeks, and to apply in VISA name.

I wanted to do exactly that, but they didn't allow me to do that anymore, because they said that this "case" is opened already and then I'd have two SSN..
