No more DCF in Vienna - USCIS field office closed permanently on 12/31/15

Hello everyone,

my wife (the USC) and I wish to relocate from Vienna, Austria to AZ this year and for that reason have slowly started preparing the process of filing the I130 and obtaining an IR-1 for me. We were happy that we'd have a comparatively short turnover time filing directly with the US embassy in Vienna, and were also accounting for this time in our plans. You can therefore imagine our surprise when we suddenly realized today that the USCIS field office was closed permanently on December 31st of 2015... That apparently means that the necessary I-130 petition has to be filed through the Chicago Lockbox as of January 1st and, from what I have gathered following this forum and the information available online, will extend the waiting time to 8-12 months.

Does anyone know why the field office was closed?

Please feel free to correct me if I have misinterpreted the info. I still somewhat hope that I did. :( Can anyone verify and possibly change the info sub-forum page entry of the embassy accordingly?

Not really possible to misinterpret that.

It was just a hunch of a curious mind. :)

I also just realized that the information found here https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/international-offices/austria-uscis-vienna-field-office can be easily altered by any user. I thought that maybe only mods can do that. Forgive a newbie!
