Give me an exit row on any aircraft any day of the the week. If prefer the extra little bit of room it gives.

I even make it a point to get to the airport way too early to request an exit row seat.

Southwest really is the best -- they are one of the few companies you can call up thesedays andactually get a human being to answer. Their staff really is a cut above the regular airlines who charge more for what is these days the same service, except with seat reservations.

I always havea soft spot for continental when one of their check in staff really pulled through when I had missed a flight (my own fault) and managed to get me on the next one, which she did not have to do since my ticket was non-changeable/refundable

Hi

I used to work for Independence Air. they were a good costmer service airline. they have gone out of their ways on many times.

they had so many uplifting storys. Too bad they belly up. Now that they are not flying anymore other airlines can now Price jab people again on the east coast.

One example, when Indepdence was flying.. say from Dulles, (washington DC) to Buffalo the R/T Ticket was like $150 or so.. now I think Delta is charging for same round $900 or more.

See I bet a lot of other airlines are glad they are not flying anymore.

Does this mean a reduced charge for a window seat on long flights?

No, Jim. The price "adjustments" are only going one way. Up!

Damn!

The irony was that Southwest once held a FALSE reputation for being cheap-travel.

In 1991, when I needed to make a trip from Detroit to the Bay Area (to visit my sister during the summer), the lowest two-way price I got from Southwest was $336 (all-inclusive) against $308 (for ultra-ultra-restrictive, no-refund) from Delta; also the route taken by Southwest would have needed several stops (on Delta one each way--Atlanta westbound, Cincinnati eastbound), certainly not a good sell for a no-frills airline.

Since 1991, Delta has downgraded considerably on service (and exacerbated this by cutting the frequency of Salt Lake City-Calgary flights), where Southwest has remained steady (well, it was no-frills to start with, so you always knew what you got).

For international (outside North America) travel, I am leery of using US airlines having never failed to have a bad experience.
